  1. I just put a weber 32/36 on my brat and the jets that are in it are to big and i wanted to ask you guys what size jets you run in your webers so I can start there and fine tune after that Thanks guys.
  2. this is the kit I ordered and they fit perfect. In the rear I just reclocked the torsion bars but it gives you crazy camber and I need fo find a way to fix it so I dont go through tires. http://www.ebay.com/itm/SCALE-COILOVER-0-3-SPRING-CRX-CR-X-DEL-SOL-CIVIC-EG-EK9-INTEGRA-DC1-DC2-DB-BLACK-/360568384306?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item53f38ceb32&vxp=mtr
  3. to get the amount of drop I wanted I had to put different strut inserts that were shorter. But if you only wanted to lower it an inch or two there is no cutting involved. I went totally crazy today and slammed mine and had to C notch the frame but man it looks way cool and it rides decent.
  4. the top door hinge on my 81 brat is worn out and I cant find a new one but I know auto zone sales repaie kits but will they work in a Brat hinge? Has anyone done this fix before or know of a source to get new ones?
  5. I got my wheels powder coated the other day and some new tires put on and this is how it sits with the coilovers on it.
  6. Well I finally finished my front coilovers iv been working on. It was super easy to make them just took a ton of research an what parts would work. I used the stock strut tubes and took out the internals and cut 2 inches out of the tube and put 1st gen MR2 rear strut inserts in. Then for the springs I got a coilover kit for a Honda Del sol and they fit perfect. Then for the top hats I got some universal camber plate for a Datsun 510 off ebay and this is wat i ended up with.
  7. it seems to handle ok right now but I have only put a few miles on it. why do you say that? I have seen a lot of cars suspension set up that way.
  8. what do you get the LSD diff from I would love to do this to my crazy little brat. here is what it looks like now and im going lower.
  9. Iv been reading that some people take there front axles out and run the transmission in 4WD and it makes there car RWD. My question is does it wurt the transmission or does it seem to hold up to that? I seems fun and it is totally reversible.
  10. I got stuck on my project this last few weeks because I am having problems with my master cylinder. I put a Reman one on and it is no good so I am having to rebuild mine this next week then ill be back at it full force.
  11. Today I built the front struts for my brat by pulling the guts out of the stock struts and putting 1 gen MR2 rear strut inserts in the stock strut tubes. I was able to cut 2 1/4 inches out so I could drop it that much lower and still have shock travel left after cutting the springs here are a few pics of the project.
  12. has anyone used some other kind of seat in the back of the brat that worked out good? pics would be great:)
  13. So today I got my 4x100 conversion done an got the brakes all done. in this pic I just have the stock strut with no spring installed and its sitting on the bump stop just to see how low the strut can go. I have some 86 MR2 strut insert on the way to install because there about 3 inches shorter that way I can lower it this low an not hit the bump stop.http--,,--//
  14. did you want the factory one or the aftermarket one? I live in Provo UT an I really dont wont to ship it because that would be a pain unless you know of a easy way just let me know.
  15. i just ordered some for a 92 mr2 because the guys in some of the Datsun forms said they were 1 3/4. Have you done this be for or how do you know?
  16. has anyone put strut inserts in stock strut tubes? I really want to build some coilovers and I have done some research and I think that a MR2 insert will fit in the stock tube and will let me go lower with out bottoming out. kind of like what this guy did. In comparison to the koni installation, it is quite a bit more involved. With Konis, you cut the top of the strut off, drill a hole in the bottom, slide the insert in, and secure it with a big bolt that threads into the bottom of the koni insert. What I did was the same kind of idea, but instead of drilling a hole in the bottom, I converted the struts into fully servicable units. For those who are unfamiliar with servicable struts, when your struts blow, you don't throw your struts out and get new ones, you remove the guts from the strut, and replace it with either factory guts, or an insert made by many many aftermarket companies. So the strut bodies should last the life of the car, but the guts inside can be changed. The advantage of converting them to fully servicable units is that you can use a zillion different inserts, as listed above. When you modify your struts the way Koni wants you to, you can only use koni inserts and nothing else. So what I did was buy a set of four front 1991 MR2 inserts, since the MR2 also came with servicable struts. This is how they looked like when they arrived: Report this image But to secure them in, instead of using a big bolt on the bottom of the strut, they are held in place using a big gland nut that closes the top of the strut off. But to use the gland nut, the top of the strut body must be threaded to accept gland nuts. Since the LC struts don't have these threads, I used the tops off of 4 AE86 struts, which are also servicable units. Here is the top of an AE86 strut with the threaded inside: Report this image Then you put the MR2 insert inside the strut, put the AE86 strut top on the LC strut, and then close it off with the gland nut. This shows just that, LC strut, AE86 top, sealed with an AE86 gland nut, holding the MR2 insert in: Report this image Then what you do is you weld them together. Of course, take the insert out before welding or you'll ruin it. I just put it in to line up the tubes straight, put on 4 tack welds to hold it in place, removed the strut, and then welded the tubes: Report this image At this point, once the tubes are welded together, you have a fully servicable strut! Now you can throw in whatever insert will fit, including the ones listed a couple posts above. I chose Tokico Illumina because it's adjustable and within my budget. If i get bored of the Illuminas, it's a quick fix and really simple to pull the illumina inserts out and throw in something more elaborate like HTS 45-way double adjustables. So yeah, I would say it is a lot more work than the Koni install. First of all, because you need 4 donor servicable struts to hack up. I had 4 extra AE86 struts that I got from the junkyard for $10 canadian each. It doesn't cost too much if you can do the work yourself. But if might cost a bit if you need a shop to do it. And there are only a select FEW shops who are knowledgable in this type of strut conversion. If you or a friend is handy with a welder, you can do it yourself. Also, to take it a step further, you can actually cut off the stock spring perches off the struts, weld on a small perch, and put some coilover sleeves onto the struts. This is the TRUE way that coilover sleeves are supposed to be installed. I would have done that if this was my race car, but it is not. It's my daily driver! I want stock springs!
  17. so are the 2wd front struts shorter? I just finished up the back end of my car tonight an man 3 notches looks really low. We will see if it clears my 15x7 wheels I picked up last week. now I just need to drill my hubs and I can put the 4x100 wheels on.
  18. how many splines did you turn your torsion bars? I have one side on mine 3 and it is going to be supper low. The other side im still working on due to the rust its pretty stuck. I think for the front im going to make a set of coilovers. how does yours ride with the cut springs an all? an how many coils did you need to cut to get that low? By the way nice looking Brat.
  19. hey guys I have a few more pics I would like to up load but I cant seem to up load them does any one know how the best way to to do this is?
  20. For the last few years i have dreaming up a slammed Brat that has some nice wheels and has a rat rod look to it and I finally found one to start on. I picked this one up in Salt Lake UT so it has some rust but over all its in pretty good shape. The motor was half way taken apart because the guy I got if from said that coolant started to come out of the valve cover breather one morning and he thought it was a head gasket leak but he gave up before he found the problem. It turned out to just be a freeze plug in the head popped out. So I just went ahead and just rebuilt the top end of the motor and it runs great. Im going to do a build blog as I go so any advice and comments would be great Here are a few pics of what she looks like. This is the Lil 1.8 all fresh and back together an going back in. I put my WRX wheels up to her to see what they would look like. I think 18s are a little to big haha.
