hello everyone, I have a 2000 forester and I need to start thinking about putting a new clutch in. I have around 222,000 miles on it and the clutch has already been replaced once. my question is, how many times can you resurface a flywheel? I know resurfacing a flywheel is determined by how much of the flywheel is left, but in general how many times can you resurface a flywheel, or should plan for a new flywheel in my budget? thanks -Lance

Engine Swap

The SOHC block works with DOHC heads. IT is running like a dream. Thanks for the information. -Lance -
Tranny Clunk
LanceDa replied to LanceDa's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
Well, I can not shift it into reverse without engaging the brake. What I did do was; engage the brake, push the button in on the gear select, let go of the brake, then shift into reverse. The clunk was a little less, but still sounded like it was shifting hard. What would cause it to clunk when the brake is engaged? thanks -Lance -
Tranny Clunk
LanceDa replied to LanceDa's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
I have read about the transmission additive and I have been wanting to try it. I just did a HG job and am kind of low on money right now, but once I get some money I am going to give it a try. Thanks for the information. -Lance -
my 99 OBW gives a loud clunk when I put it in reverse first thing in the morning. This only happens when the car is cold. If I take the tranny down to drive and let it sit there for a few seconds, then put it into reverse it will either not clunk or clunk less. I did a tranny fluid change a few months ago, and the levels are up. I have very little knowledge about transmissions. Any advice is very much appreciated. thanks -Lance

Hello, Stumbled across someone selling a straight pipe for dirt cheap . I drive a 2000 Forester 2.5 MT and this straight pipe is from a 97 Legacy GT. I am wondering if it will fit my car. I want to now if it will work before I get my hopes up, and then find out it doesn't fit and bash my hopes. thanks -Lance

hello, Back in the day my dad used to own a service station, and used to be a car guy. So, with all that knowledge I thought I would ask him a question. My question was; how would you clean out the inside of the engine, without taking it apart and rebuilding it? Well, my dad told me, he would drain his oil and fill it back up with kerosene. He would then tighten everything back up and run it for a few minutes, drain the kerosene and put the oil back in. Well, to me this just sounds wrong. I was wondering what you guys might think about this. -Lance

Thanks for the info everyone. Figured out the problem. The crank sprocket has 2 marks on it: one is on the outer part of the sprocket and is the correct mark. The other mark is on the inner part of the sprocket and is triangle shaped. I was lining it up with the second, triangle shaped mark, and that is the wrong mark :-\ . Why would they do a crazy thing like that, don't they know that I will put it all together without check and blow an engine Thanks again everyone. -Lance

Hello, I have a 99 Outback, 2.5 DOHC and I am putting the engine back together after finish the HG. I have run into a problem, I have lined the passenger side cam sprockets for correct timing. Set the crank to TDC. Lined up the exhaust cam sprocket on the driver side. The intake cam sprocket will not go into position. It seems to be hitting something, could the cylinder be hitting the valves, if so, why? any and all help is very welcome. I want to get this into my wifes car ASAP. Thanks in advance. -Lance

this may be a stupid question. We shall see. Putting the engine in my 99 outback, it has the 2.5 DOHC. I can not figure out how to get the wires to the drivers side fuel injectore (should be cylinders 2 and 4, I think). I have tried routing them through every which way and I can't get them there. Does anyone have any pictures of this, or can someone take some pictures for me. It would be really appreciated. thanks -Lance

hello Subaru Geniuses, I have a 2000 forester, and I am thinking of painting it with durabak next year. So, before I go and do a crazy thing like that, I am doing a little research. Unlike my wifes outback, my forester has molding on the bottom of the doors, and I can not remember what they are called. Anyways, I am debating whether I want to paint over them or take them off and then paint. I was just wondering if anyone has any pictures with that bottom molding taken off, and does anyone know what is under there? thanks a bunch -Lance

Hello, Yet another question from me. I am doing the HG's on my 99 outback and it has a 2.5 DOHC. When I was taking off the heads some of the lifters fell out, and I may have put them back in the wrong place. How much trouble am I in? How do I make sure they are in the right spot. thanks in advance -Lance

Hello all, I have a engine swap question. I have a 99 outback AT with a 2.5 DOHC and I need to replace the engine block due to a broken head bolt that won't come out. Will a 99 SOHC block fit my DOHC heads, and everything else that I have from my DOHC engine? Also, just a general question for future reference, Are all EJ25 block (EJ25D, EJ251, etc.) blocks interchangeable? thanks for your time and knowledge -Lance

Hi John,
wondering if you still have that 97 GT engine block for sale. Sorry it took so long to get back to you, I was waiting to see if I could recover my old block. Unfortunately I could not. I have not looked at the jprices for a used block, so how does $100 plus any shipping charge sound?
please contact me and let me know what you think.
