resurfacing flywheel
LanceDa replied to LanceDa's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthe last time I got my clutch replaced I was out of the country for a year and my parents had it done for me, so I don't know if the flywheel was resurfaced. I would assume that it was resurfaced, but you know what they say when you assume. thanks -Lance

resurfacing flywheel
hello everyone, I have a 2000 forester and I need to start thinking about putting a new clutch in. I have around 222,000 miles on it and the clutch has already been replaced once. my question is, how many times can you resurface a flywheel? I know resurfacing a flywheel is determined by how much of the flywheel is left, but in general how many times can you resurface a flywheel, or should plan for a new flywheel in my budget? thanks -Lance

Depressurizing fuel line to change the fuel filter 87 gl
Let it sit overnight. it will de-pressurize overnight, then change it in the morning before you start the car. That is how I did mine. good luck. Don't kill yourself, if you do make sure someone gets the insurance money

Tranny Clunk
LanceDa replied to LanceDa's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell, I can not shift it into reverse without engaging the brake. What I did do was; engage the brake, push the button in on the gear select, let go of the brake, then shift into reverse. The clunk was a little less, but still sounded like it was shifting hard. What would cause it to clunk when the brake is engaged? thanks -Lance

Tranny Clunk
LanceDa replied to LanceDa's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have read about the transmission additive and I have been wanting to try it. I just did a HG job and am kind of low on money right now, but once I get some money I am going to give it a try. Thanks for the information. -Lance

Tranny Clunk
my 99 OBW gives a loud clunk when I put it in reverse first thing in the morning. This only happens when the car is cold. If I take the tranny down to drive and let it sit there for a few seconds, then put it into reverse it will either not clunk or clunk less. I did a tranny fluid change a few months ago, and the levels are up. I have very little knowledge about transmissions. Any advice is very much appreciated. thanks -Lance

What Have You Done to your Soobie lately? (Please post in here and keep it going)
I got the headgasket finished on my wifes 99 OBW. First time doing it. Besides some setback, I found it to be relatively easy. Now I am looking for another 2.5 to rebuild and put in my Forester. I think I am hooked on semi-rebuilding engines. -Lance

Newb Exhaust Q
LanceDa replied to LanceDa's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthat is what I was thinking, just different enough so that it won't fit. I think lives quite a bit away, I don't know if I could do make it and see if it fits. -Lance

Newb Exhaust Q
Hello, Stumbled across someone selling a straight pipe for dirt cheap . I drive a 2000 Forester 2.5 MT and this straight pipe is from a 97 Legacy GT. I am wondering if it will fit my car. I want to now if it will work before I get my hopes up, and then find out it doesn't fit and bash my hopes. thanks -Lance

cleaning the engine
LanceDa replied to LanceDa's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAlright, a bunch of good information. on that note, another question. On my 2000 Forester, I have 200,000+ miles and I run synthetic, should I be running the high mileage oil, if so which one? I always thought it was a sham, but after reading this it sounds like it might work. -Lance

cleaning the engine
hello, Back in the day my dad used to own a service station, and used to be a car guy. So, with all that knowledge I thought I would ask him a question. My question was; how would you clean out the inside of the engine, without taking it apart and rebuilding it? Well, my dad told me, he would drain his oil and fill it back up with kerosene. He would then tighten everything back up and run it for a few minutes, drain the kerosene and put the oil back in. Well, to me this just sounds wrong. I was wondering what you guys might think about this. -Lance

Cams and Timing Problem
LanceDa replied to LanceDa's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks for the info everyone. Figured out the problem. The crank sprocket has 2 marks on it: one is on the outer part of the sprocket and is the correct mark. The other mark is on the inner part of the sprocket and is triangle shaped. I was lining it up with the second, triangle shaped mark, and that is the wrong mark :-\ . Why would they do a crazy thing like that, don't they know that I will put it all together without check and blow an engine Thanks again everyone. -Lance

Cams and Timing Problem
Hello, I have a 99 Outback, 2.5 DOHC and I am putting the engine back together after finish the HG. I have run into a problem, I have lined the passenger side cam sprockets for correct timing. Set the crank to TDC. Lined up the exhaust cam sprocket on the driver side. The intake cam sprocket will not go into position. It seems to be hitting something, could the cylinder be hitting the valves, if so, why? any and all help is very welcome. I want to get this into my wifes car ASAP. Thanks in advance. -Lance

Outback wiring
this may be a stupid question. We shall see. Putting the engine in my 99 outback, it has the 2.5 DOHC. I can not figure out how to get the wires to the drivers side fuel injectore (should be cylinders 2 and 4, I think). I have tried routing them through every which way and I can't get them there. Does anyone have any pictures of this, or can someone take some pictures for me. It would be really appreciated. thanks -Lance

forester molding
LanceDa replied to LanceDa's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI was thinking about just leaving the molding as is and not paint it. I am just wondering what is under there with out actually taking it off. I have a tendency of making easy tasks into something way more difficult, especially with cars:lol:. 2 hour job turns into 12 hours. thanks -Lance

forester molding
hello Subaru Geniuses, I have a 2000 forester, and I am thinking of painting it with durabak next year. So, before I go and do a crazy thing like that, I am doing a little research. Unlike my wifes outback, my forester has molding on the bottom of the doors, and I can not remember what they are called. Anyways, I am debating whether I want to paint over them or take them off and then paint. I was just wondering if anyone has any pictures with that bottom molding taken off, and does anyone know what is under there? thanks a bunch -Lance

Valve Lifters Q
Hello, Yet another question from me. I am doing the HG's on my 99 outback and it has a 2.5 DOHC. When I was taking off the heads some of the lifters fell out, and I may have put them back in the wrong place. How much trouble am I in? How do I make sure they are in the right spot. thanks in advance -Lance

Engine Swap
Hello all, I have a engine swap question. I have a 99 outback AT with a 2.5 DOHC and I need to replace the engine block due to a broken head bolt that won't come out. Will a 99 SOHC block fit my DOHC heads, and everything else that I have from my DOHC engine? Also, just a general question for future reference, Are all EJ25 block (EJ25D, EJ251, etc.) blocks interchangeable? thanks for your time and knowledge -Lance

Center Diff Question
I have a 2000 forester with a 5MT. I am pretty sure the center diff is bad. It has the right symptoms, once it is warmed up it will clunk when I turn hard at slow speeds. I am wondering how much does a fried center diff effect the whole AWD system? As far as I can tell the AWD is working, but I don't know how much it is working. thanks -Lance
