  1. Just a heads up here as these dont come up very often and it should go to someone in the know. http://asheville.craigslist.org/cto/2844320798.html
  2. WOW, what an amazing offer Mike! Sounds like one incredible opportunity for me and I do thank you so very much, wow so awesome of you to offer!! I would have to trailer the car do to it dumping so much gear oil so quickly and at the moment I do not have a vehicle I could tow it with and would have to rent a trailer! I do believe I can handle the repair myself but do want to make sure I am getting the correct parts. I am getting conflicting statments from local parts stores about whether the seals are dirctional or not. I was under impression that they are but evidently some are not? Also these places can not seem to find the correct seal and so the O ring is way over the heads! If you could point me in the right direction getting the correct parts I would so very appreciate it! The car is 5speed manual with push button 4wd. Thanks again for your very kind offer! Jay
  3. WOW figured I would get a few more comments here? Guess I will just have to hit the parts store in person rather than try and sort this out on line. The one thing I would appreciate some more input, info on the O ring I have heard should be replaced at the same time as the seal? I am guessing its just behind the seal? Any input greatly appreciated.
  4. Was hoping to avoid this whole type of shinanagans and hoping only order once this is why I posted. Seems like this would be pretty simple answer with a good couple part numbers but guess this is not the case. Maybe I should just hit up the dealer to make sure I get, have the right parts? Amazing how most repair shops and parts dealers seem to consider these cars pretty much non existant or not worth of any kind of major fix? Anyway I will wait for a day or two and bet I get some better more in depth answers. Thanks jAY
  5. I am having trouble finding any shop within fifty miles of me willing to do the axle seals on this car which really floors me! So I am going to attempt to do the job myself! I have visited some of the other posts about this and it seems like something I should be able to do but am having a little trouble making sure I am getting the correct parts! Autozone for 92 loyale 4wd axle seal or differential seal says no part match? Advance shows the seals but only shows the left side in the 4wd no right. Although they show right and left for front wheel drove? So are the front wheel and 4wd front axle seals actually different? Also I read somewhere about a O ring that should be replaced at the same time and can not find the part or part number? Can anyone please help me with getting the correct parts for this car. Folks around here in red neck country Virginia act like my ole subie is a flying saucer space ship from another planet! Any help appreciated!
  6. Thanks for the heads up and yes i have been checking Richmond several times a day! The 91 wagon I just saw before I came here as saw your! I am planning on calling in the morning to possibly go check it out! Thanks again for the heads up
  7. I am pretty picky in what I am looking for. This is probably one reason I do not find many.
  8. Yes I am all over craigslist, all cities in my area, ebay and my local message board paper! I found the car mentioned in this post in the Raleigh Craigslist! Its gotten pretty tough really, I used to find several interesting to me cars on ebay and craigs almost daily but these days I only seem to find on every couple of weeks. I have been looking real strong for two weeks and have only found three I was interested in seeing, two sold before I could get there and one is just too far to go! I actually may drive up to Maryland to check this on out tomorrow if it did not sell today? Keepin on keepin on looking here
  9. Car sold before I had a chance to go look at it! So still looking for a good daily driver for under 2grand, with ac and hopefully cruise but may have to go without just to get into a ride as I have to do something soon, prefer 5speed but will consider good condition auto! Virginia, Dc , Baltimore, Philly, OBX area! Might go look at a 96 legacy L sedan, 140,000 awd automatic i found at the 1500.00 price point thats in Maryland! If it was the 5speed I would be on my way! Anyway thanks again for all your excellent input! Jay
  10. Right on very nice reply! So what would me the most likely thing to throw a code on a 150,000 mile ej22? Hopefully I can figure out this code thing before I go see the car! Code Chart? Guess I will do a search. Thanks again
  11. Actually he said his code reader did not test that old of car? kinda PhishY? Thinking on test drive I might should drive to a auto zone or advance for a free test? This is the ej22 motor in the car if I am not mistaken! Were these prone to overheat at all with higher mileage? I can see how a non car person might have the check engine light come on 150,000 miles and just trade it when there might not be much wrong. Or could be something big? Thinking I will check all the fluid levels first, check for signs of leaks, and then start it and keep it running for a good thirty to hour test drive to see if it starts to overheat. It is always some what of a gamble, hopefully a educated gamble, when buy a older used car as a every day driver! So far in my life I have been extremely lucky and have gotten 100,000 miles plus out of less than a thousand dollar cars! Guess we will see how it feels tomorrow?
  12. So I am going to look and possibly buy this car tomorrow? Its 5 speed with working cruise and AC! Carfax shows one owner no accidents. 153,000 carfax verified miles. Was sold at auction and is for sale by dealer! Dealer says check engine light is on and that someone test drove said it shimmies a little at highway speed probably tires? I rarely need four wheel drive so the front wheel only is a plus for me as I like the extra maybe two miles to gallon! So I guess my question is, is the check engine light something to be concerned about? I have heard that it is probably just a Ox sensor or something and have driven cars with check engine light on for tens of thousands of miles in the past! Thinking the engine light might be my leverage for another $100.00 or so off the final price! Anything specific I need to look for I know all the regular stuff, this 5speed with working cruise is just a little hard to find? Thanks for all you great input!
  13. For whatever reason I really like to see the 4wd green four wheel dealio come on when it engages and would like to have it fixed. LOL
  14. What would make my sensor light in dash cluster come on every now and then when engage in 4wd? It is going in and out of 4wd with the push of the button but the indicator only comes on after its been in 4wd for a while if at all?
  15. 1973 Clark CORTEZ MOTORHOME , 1982 Honda GL 500 Silverwing Interstate, 1991 toyota corolla wagon very smooth reliable good car! 1985 ATC 200s honda three wheeler almost showroom condition!
  16. The gear oil going away on my 92 loyale 4wd I think it is leaking out as it is very wet around the cv axles and the boots are good. I was thinking that my leak was the main seal as the car has 206,000 miles and a throw out bearing that is making nasty noise! But now I am thinking that the stinking to high hell oil burning smell might be leaking gear oil and not the main seal? SO what do you guys think about my issue and where the gear oil might me going? This last time I guess I went just a little too long without checking because I didnt yet realize the issue and the trans started to whine! I filled up the gear oil no more whine but now the oil is gone again:eek: HELP
  17. So I have heard that some owners have had there out of warranty head gaskets replaced for free by their subaru dealer. SO how many of you have had or know of folks that have had head gasket replaced for free by a dealer?
  18. http://www.subaruwrxparts.com/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=1793&idcategory=235#details Has anyone here used these kits. I am looking at a legacy that has had one installed already and am wondering if it is really as good as it sounds? Thanks
  19. Ok, folks I have found a 96 5 speed Outback that seems to be close to what I am looking for? I have not gone to look at it yet but they say it will not pass a emissions test due to a exhaust leak and it has 254,000 miles on the ticker. Says to have been well maintained and a no accident vehicle with excellent body and paint, no picture. My question being is there anything specific I should check for look for listen for when I go see and test drive this vehicle. I know all the basic stuff but am not too familiar with the all wheel drive subs? There is no emissions test where I live so if the exhaust is not loud it should pass? Anyway the price is right but the 254,000 miles concerns me just a bit even though from what I understand it should have the last of the bullet proof NON-interference ej22s? Thanks for any and all of your excellent input. Peace out
  20. My 92 Loyale just started a whine in fourth gear and only fourth, no sound in any other gear? It is time for a clutch kit and a total oil seal but am wondering if this is a sign of the trans needing replaced rebuilt? Hate to spend the time and monies doing the clutch and seals , timing belts tensioners and waterpump only to end up needing a trans too? Thanks for you input!
  21. Thanks for the reply, I am having a hard time making up my mind on this one! I have really been looking for 95 or 96 mainly because of the non-interference motor difference and I like the body style better than the earlier legacy wagons although I would probably pop if I find what I think is a good deal on a legacy 90 to 94. Ive been looking fairly hard for the 90 to 96 legacy wagon with 5 speed and working cruise control and AC without much luck! this is the only reason I am even considering this 97 and rethinking this deal due to the 97 having the interference motor, knowing that the timing belt & tensioners need to be done and the monies for the cat, and possible brake work is making me think I should keep looking for what I consider the perfect ride! Still on the fence but leaning towards not buying! I have until around 10am Sunday to decide by then he will probably have it sold to someone else!? Thanks again for the input Peace out
  22. I may be completely wrong but I was under the impression that shops that have the reclamation machines are able to sell reclaimed r12 into no leak AC systems? I had my R12 recharged in my old 89 tercel two years ago for 75.00 and had no idea if the system worked, damn thing blows ARCTIC two years later!!! They do have a reclamation machine and that is where I thought the R12 came from? Like I said I may be completely wrong?
  23. Ok so Im looking at buying a 97 legacy 5speed it has no insurance or current registration so I could only drive it around the neighborhood. Runs really good even though owner says car was stolen and they took the cat and radio before the police found and returned??? I think something may be up with the abs as he says the light comes on sometimes and that he rewired some sensor that had been cut when the cat had been removed? So my question is if the abs is out will the cruise still work? The brakes seemed pretty good other than just a little bump when applying hard to stop? How hard are these abs brakes to work on? I think I may buy it as its at less than 200,000 miles no rust very dry no leaks and a 1000.00 bill! Thanks for all your excellent input!
  24. So is the cruise control tied into all abs brakes model or just after a curtain years?
