Thanks guys! you guys were a huge help! I need to return my Gates crap unfortunately. I should have waited to order until I read all of your recommendations. I need to get this done ASAP so the first Subaru is getting Gates timing belt and Enginetech gaskets. Hopefully it works out. Unless I hit the dealer up with a new belt. I travel lots so I need to blitz through work when I can. So I pushed the first car parts last night before I got your good info. I’ll round up the good parts for the next go around. I don’t mind pulling these motors. They are about the easiest to deal with next to a muscle car. So I will try to blend this one and hope it lasts.

Hello all Again asking the masses on here for advise. I’m replacing the head gaskets and water pump, timing belt. On both my Subaru Outbacks 2005,2007 both are failing at the same time. Can you give me your best options on manufacturer of the kits I need. I can find a place to buy them so you don’t upset the forum rules if there are any for that. i was going to drop the money on Fel-pro and Gates. Not quite sure about the head bolts yet. But if you know of a kit that does it all that would be great. Thanks in advance

its been awhile that I drove it but it only chimed when I started driving it down the road. What I can remember it was a constant chime with no pause. My buddys scanner pulled up every airbag fault it had. The recall was never done on the bags also so I was thinking if i can get it through emissions I might try to take it to the dealer and have them replace the recalled bags and figure out the airbag faults. I cant afford dealer labor rates so I do my own work. Im not trained on Subarus so I need info from here to work through the troubleshooting. I never would have known about the seat belt alarm disable trick without that video! Thanks! Also I was hoping to get a scan tool that I can use or software through a PC that can help me through Subaru faults and flashing. since I own three Subarus now its worth it.

Thanks guys it’s worth checking all of your ideas. It does sound like the seatbelt alarm or doorjamb. I had the drivers door apart and it all looked good maybe the passenger side is bad or belt buckle. What does the do the diagnostic plugs look like? I had a small one plugged in but I’m sure it’s not anymore. But why would they come on only after my buddy connected his emission PC for state inspection? The car was running good up until then. I had disconnected the ABS harness to keep the brakes from locking while he was testing may that have something to do with it? The ABS is still defective and it’s possible the previous owner changed out the computer because this car shows a history of being totaled. I’m not sure but the airbags might have been deployed at one time.

Hello all Im hoping to get some advise on possibly reflashing my ECU. My 2007 Outback 2.5 is going crazy and I admit I don’t know enough about the Subaru’s to troubleshoot it without some advise. I just gave it a small tune up to get the engine from missing. But the dash is lit up like a Christmas tree. The picture shows what it’s doing while running. I tried to clear the codes out of the Obd2 but I realize it’s more than that. I purchased the car cheep and was given a warning about the electrical issues. Main one was an airbag warning beeping that wouldn’t go away. when I drove it to get inspected is when the ABS messed up and locked up the front brakes. I limped it to the garage and that’s when the dash went nuts. the oil temp warning light blinks under all conditions, airbag still dings auditable tone even after replacing the console board in the headliner. It seems that almost every light on the dash is on like it’s going through a systems check but doesn’t know what to do. thanks for your help

Well I limped it home after failing an inspection. the dash was lit up like a Christmas tree. I’ll need to check the computer to see what’s up but I’m at a loss why it is going nuts. The ABS system is keeping the front brakes from releasing I disconnected the harness fro it and the brakes freed up. It is a electronic nightmare

Well I found out some history on my vehicle. It looks like the car was in an accident and the airbags deployed. So I didn’t know this because somehow the recent owner was able to keep a clean title for the car. Even though it was totaled. Anyway I took it in for inspection and it failed big time. The ABS messed up and caused the front brakes to stick and heated up my rotors and brakes on the drive there. The airbag control is throwing every code it can. Also the check engine light came on and started blinking on the drive back from the shop. It seems the computer may be from an incompatible car. I’m not sure about that though. Well I’m going to need lots of advise on this one. 1. Has anyone had any experience with the ABS causing the front brakes only to stay on when the ABS light comes on. 2. What will I need to do to resolve an airbag deployed car? The airbag sensors seem to be replaced or in new condition. I looked over the car good and haven’t found where it was hit. The bodywork was done well if it needed it. I did notice the front windshield was replaced and the hood. Also the airbag recall was never done on this car. I am guessing that the bags deployed since the controller is throwing so many codes. 3. Can I re-flash the computer to make it work for my Subaru. (What system would you use to re-flash it)? I work on cars at my shop so I need to upgrade anyway. I can’t drop big money on it though. Maybe a tech 5 knock off or a used Snap-on scanner. I was looking at a WiFi scanner to pc or phone that can read srs codes and reset them but I’m not sure if they will let me re-flash the computer for the airbags. Or if it’s a dealer only setup. thanks guys

Well the car it came off a wrecked Subaru that had deployed airbags. I did notice tonight my Subaru had a shattered windshield. I may have to check the car fax it it tell me something that I need to know. The gentleman that sold it to me told me that the airbag module may be defective. I didn’t want to throw parts at it unless I know that it’s the problem. The board in the dash looked good on both but I didn’t use my meter on them to test it.

Hello all I have a 2007 outback. The airbag light is on. I can’t seem to trace out the problem. I don’t know the history of the car I just bought it. I was hoping someone would know how to pull the codes. Or anyone could link me to an old thread that may help me troubleshoot the problem. The instrument panel light flashes along with the passenger light in the console. I replaced the airbag board in the consul with a known working unit. That did not seem to help. I fixed a wiring attempt on the driver seat. I read about grounding the #2 pin on the scanner plug to pull up the codes. I didn’t get a chance to do it yet. I hope that works. Also I have dead windshield washer pumps. I checked most of the grounds and cleaned them up. I’m not sure if they are related to the airbag issue or not.

Thanks guys I replaced the charcoal canister but haven't had a chance to test it out yet. I found a donor car for it. Now i just need to fix all the other bugs! air bag light and alarm heated seats don't work check engine light dim passenger headlight sticking front calipers (machine rotors rust pitting) passenger door power window motor replace the driver side passengers door (dented from accident) The car sat for 3 years and has several issues I'm sure there is more that i haven't found yet.

Hey all! I'm looking for any ideas on my odometer problem. The speedometer works fine but the odometer is not working now. The car was purchased with an engine with blown head gaskets. I wasn't able to drive it to see if it worked until I fixed the engine. So I swapped out the engine with another but used the same transmission. What happened when I drove it was the ODOMETER INCREASED MILEAGE 10 times or more than the actual mileage driven. So it basically went from 80,000 miles to 300,000 miles in about 5000 miles. You get the point. So now the odometer isn't working at all. I didn't want to replace anything until I'm sure what caused it. But of course in need to get it inspected and my garage doesn't want to pass it without it working. Thanks

OK started out with blown head gasket's the 1997 Legacy outback.it has a 2.5 L engine with automatic trans. . It has a factory remote lock with alarm system installed. I swapped the engine with a low mileage 2.5l from Japan. The EGR valve didn't mate up the head since I had to use the original intake setup. Other than having to plug the EGR everything went smoothly or so I thought. The car wouldn't charge the battery enough when a full load was applied using the headlights and wipers and defrosters etc. So I would drive it for a bit then I would need a jump to start it. So I put a new alternator on it then another. Then it wouldn't start with a jump so I put a new starter that didn't do it. Then I tried another battery nope. Then a new battery and a high quality alternator along with new grounds to chassis and alternator assembly with new terminals. That took care of the charging issue. I thought that was it. Nope still needed a jump. Finally I got good advise from a Subaru specialist mechanic. He told me to try the starter solenoid contacts or starter switch. Bam! FINALLY IT STARTS! But wait now the parking lights won't turn off unless I disconnect the battery completely!! What the hell! Can anybody help me with this one. I'm at a loss. I tore the dash apart to clean up the wiring while replacing the ignition switch and was careful. The only thing I did different was repair a cut wire pink one that goes to a light for the remote start. So after I noticed the lights stay on I cut it just to be sure that wasn't the reason. Also I unplugged the new ignition switch and put old one back one. No difference. Thanks I hope you all had a good laugh. But I really need some suggestions on this one.
