  1. I do not llike the wind noise I hear insode my 2001 Forester with the roof basket mounted while driving on the highway. I have some sound deadening material that I would like to install under the roof panel. Also, I have a roof rail that is a little loose that I would like to tighten.

Anyone removed the headliner and would like to share some tips?

    Thanks,

    Tony P

  2. I have a 1985 Brat, 120,xxx miles. The 3 speed Auto Tranny is slipping bad on the 2nd to 3rd shift. I have another 3 speed tranny to put in it. I am told that it is good, sure hope so!

I would REALLY appreciate any tips as to the order of removing and replacing tranny. Should I remove engine and radiator?

I have been wanting to replace the auto with a hi/lo manual preferably a 5 speed, but financially, I cannot make that happen. I think I am gonna replace this auto tranny and the motor / tranny mounts and sell my Brat. I just do not like owning a 3 speed auto Brat!

    I'd appreciate any suggestions!

    Thanks again,

  3. My 85 Brat just turned 121,000 miles. I have a a rear engine mount or tranny mount going bad. When Brat is in reverse, there is a bumping sound upon throttle application. I ordered a new mount from Rock Auto that is supposed to be for 3 AT Brat. But the mount I received looks nothing like what is on my Brat.

    Anybody replaced this mount before?

Where did you buy the mount

    Any suggestions?

    I REALLY wish I had a 4 or a 5 speed!

    Thanks,

  4. Guys I am seriously thinking about buying a 1982 Brat DL parts truck and installing the 4 speed hi / lo tranny in this parts truck in my 1985 Brat GL which currently has a 3 seed auto (which I really dislike).

I ASSUME that there is nothing different on a Auto tranny Brat that would prevent me from installing all of the manual tranny parts. I know I will need to do a lot of work, clutch pedal, console shifters, front and rear diffs, tranny,....etc...

I am tired of the poor performance with the Auto tranny. My 1985 GL Brat gets 22 mpg around town and about 25-26 on the hwy. I have been told that with the 4 speed I can get 30-32 mpg, Is that realistic?

I am also going to install a Weber 32/36 or maybe a slightly larger Weber.

And after the work is done, I can make a little money selling my 3 speed that works fine, and all of the extra parts from this parts truck ( with the rusty bed) to earn a little extra money.

I would really appreciate any opinions from you guys!

    thanks,

  5. Well, I have a 117k original miles on a nice looking rust free Brat, engine is in excellent condition, no oil leaks, very original truck, with the original 3 spd. tranny.

First problem, Even with wide open throttle, it shifts into second gear at 12 mph, which KILLS acceleration and I am sure puts an extra load on the engine. At anything less than WOT, it shifts into 2nd gear at 8 - 10 mph.

A local Subaru mechanic replaced the modulator with an adjustable one, and flushed tranny fluid , and the 1 to 2 shift is still no later than 12 mph.

And the performance and fuel mileage really sucks compared to a manual tranny. Other than that, the 3 speed is great!

    thanks,
