  1. I don't need measurements, to be honest I am shocked that there was NO sound deadening material at all on the roof! No wonder I hear wind noise! Thanks so much for the help. I may also, put a bit of fiberglass insulation up there ! Tony P
  2. gbhrps, Thanks for the AWESOME detailed response! I have never removed a headliner but with you info I think I can do it. Do you think that there will be bare metal under the roof for me to stick these sound deadener panels from Dynomat? While I am tighening the loose roof rack I want to make the car a littl quieter. thanks again! TOny P
  3. I do not llike the wind noise I hear insode my 2001 Forester with the roof basket mounted while driving on the highway. I have some sound deadening material that I would like to install under the roof panel. Also, I have a roof rail that is a little loose that I would like to tighten. Anyone removed the headliner and would like to share some tips? Thanks, Tony P
  4. I have a 2001 Forester that has badly scratched front driver and passenger windows. It looks like chaging them would be a really headache. I would welcome any tips / suggestions. I have replacement windows that a friend gave me. thanks, Tony P
  5. I have a 1985 Brat, 120,xxx miles. The 3 speed Auto Tranny is slipping bad on the 2nd to 3rd shift. I have another 3 speed tranny to put in it. I am told that it is good, sure hope so! I would REALLY appreciate any tips as to the order of removing and replacing tranny. Should I remove engine and radiator? I have been wanting to replace the auto with a hi/lo manual preferably a 5 speed, but financially, I cannot make that happen. I think I am gonna replace this auto tranny and the motor / tranny mounts and sell my Brat. I just do not like owning a 3 speed auto Brat! I'd appreciate any suggestions! Thanks again, Tony P Monroe, NC
  6. I need to replace my 3 speed auto tranny and all other related parts, pedals, shifters, rear axle,.....etc in my 1985 Brat with a manual tranny. Can I use these parts from a Gen 1 Brat? thanks, Tony P
  7. My 85 Brat just turned 121,000 miles. I have a a rear engine mount or tranny mount going bad. When Brat is in reverse, there is a bumping sound upon throttle application. I ordered a new mount from Rock Auto that is supposed to be for 3 AT Brat. But the mount I received looks nothing like what is on my Brat. Anybody replaced this mount before? Where did you buy the mount Any suggestions? I REALLY wish I had a 4 or a 5 speed! Thanks, Tony P
  8. I have a new rebuild kit for the oil pump if you cannot find one locally. Tony p New Salem, NC
  9. What year / model Suby are you inquiring about? Tony P
  10. So I will reset the light. Do I need to recconnect the Vac lines to the EGR stuff, the BRAT runs great as is. What about the Emissions Canister, do I need to somehow connect it? The Fuel Return line is plugged at the moment, is that a problem?/ Thanks, Tony p
  11. Well, I installed the Weber 32/36 on my Brat. Guessed at how to deal with all of the Vac lines. The Brat is running GREAT now, But the EGR light is on now. It has never been on before. How should I hook the vac line up for the EGR? Tony P New Salem, NC 1985 Brat 120,xxx miles / 3 AT / No T-tops
  12. Where can I find "Camerons' Diagram??? thanks, Tony P
  13. I am still not sure about the fuel return line, and all of the other evap lines, vac ports, etc on my E81.... Tony P
  14. This guy lives an hour or so from me. He builds E71 and E81 engines for experimental aircraft applications. He also rebuilds the ND Distributors with a GM "horse shoe module, which is a cheap alternative to the stock replacement module when it goes out. His company is called Ram Performance. http://charlotte.craigslist.org/pts/2984036963.html Tony p
  15. Hey guys, I am going to instal a new Weber 32/36 on my 1985 brat today. I have searched and cannot find a write up on this. I am not sure what to do with the fuel return line and all this other extra plumbing, and vac lines.I have a 1985 Brat with 3AT. Thanks, Tony P
  16. Guys I am seriously thinking about buying a 1982 Brat DL parts truck and installing the 4 speed hi / lo tranny in this parts truck in my 1985 Brat GL which currently has a 3 seed auto (which I really dislike). I ASSUME that there is nothing different on a Auto tranny Brat that would prevent me from installing all of the manual tranny parts. I know I will need to do a lot of work, clutch pedal, console shifters, front and rear diffs, tranny,....etc... I am tired of the poor performance with the Auto tranny. My 1985 GL Brat gets 22 mpg around town and about 25-26 on the hwy. I have been told that with the 4 speed I can get 30-32 mpg, Is that realistic? I am also going to install a Weber 32/36 or maybe a slightly larger Weber. And after the work is done, I can make a little money selling my 3 speed that works fine, and all of the extra parts from this parts truck ( with the rusty bed) to earn a little extra money. I would really appreciate any opinions from you guys! thanks, Tony P
  17. What does IIRC mean? No adjustment of the Modulator affects the shift point. Even tried trans Medic, and changed fluid again using B&M Trick Shift, no change. Is there a band adjustment? Local transmission shop is no help. thanks, Tony p
  18. Well, I have a 117k original miles on a nice looking rust free Brat, engine is in excellent condition, no oil leaks, very original truck, with the original 3 spd. tranny. First problem, Even with wide open throttle, it shifts into second gear at 12 mph, which KILLS acceleration and I am sure puts an extra load on the engine. At anything less than WOT, it shifts into 2nd gear at 8 - 10 mph. A local Subaru mechanic replaced the modulator with an adjustable one, and flushed tranny fluid , and the 1 to 2 shift is still no later than 12 mph. And the performance and fuel mileage really sucks compared to a manual tranny. Other than that, the 3 speed is great! thanks, Tony p
  19. Shawn, So, are you saying that if I buy a 84 Brat with 4 spd hi/lo, that I will have EVERYTHIN I need to replace the 3 spd auto in my 85 Brat? I have had two people tell me that it will not work without major fabrication.?? thanks, Tony p
  20. Another question. I was told that If I bought a 1984 4speed / Dual range and rear diff that this will NOT bolt up to my 1985 3speed Auto brat. I was told that it just will not work. Does not sound right. Is that true? I can buy a complete 1984 Brat with 4 speed Hi / lo really cheap. Why would this NOt work? thanks, Tony p
  21. Jerry, Do you have a Kit to replace my 3 speed Auto tranny in my 1985 Brat with a 5 speed? If so, what is involved? I guess I will need to find a 5 speed tranny, will any 80's 5 speed work? And I will need a clutch pedal? Price? Any fabrication on my part? thanks, Tony p
  22. I have an 85 Brat. My A/c gets down to 40 F on a 93 F day. But, cold air only comes out of the center vent. With just a VERY little bit of cold air out of the other vents. I took the fan out and cleaned the blades, and cleaned out the electric motor. I have real good quiet fan speed, just almost ALL of the air comes out the middle vent ! Tony P
  23. That works for me!
