  1. OK I've searched, and I've looked at my digital FSM till I'm cross eyed. Wish my paper FSM would arrive. This question arises from buying a basket case car which you have never owned an example of . One of my heads has a tapped hole which the other one does't have. Is that the right (1 & 3) head or the left (2 & 4)? Feel free to flame away or point out obvious stuff I have missed :-\ Bill
  2. Tractor? Whoot!! 2300 RPM shift points? Whoot!! Now I want straight through dual exhausts. Bill
  3. Jesse You are an inspiration. Our BRATS are, on the whole, about equal. Mine is rust free and I just received the title in the mail, but my motor is still sitting on the work bench, and I have at least one torn CV boot and a broken windshield, so niether one of us is driving:( Re: your last pic, one of my todos before installing the motor is to clean up my water pump pully to hopefully make that belt last a little longer. Keep at it Bill
  4. Sorry I should have referred to my earlier post. The reason I learned about the seal is because the pulley has a chunk out of it. I'm going to need a different pulley. Just wondering if new is worth the expense. From your reply I'm thinking about a trip to the salvage yard. Bill
  5. Looks like the front seal seals against the pulley. I'm learning stuff. Will a used pulley usually seal up or am I looking for a new one?
  6. The more I think about it, the more I think I'll just wait till I get the motor back in the BRAT and let the clutch hold it. Thanks for identifying the pulley. This motor confuses me. The odometer shows 150K, but there is not a sign of a ring ridge at the top of the cylinders. Bill
  7. I think I need a new pulley. See the chip just to the left of the screw driver handle. Is that the pulley I need if i want to hook up my AC? I'm still not sure this is the motor that came in my 87 BRAT from the factory, so I'm unsure of the accessories. Also I know it looks like a horror story, but can I get away with jamming the crankshaft with that screwdriver in the cam gear like that, or do I need to find some other way? thanks Bill
  8. You guys on The Great Subaru Brat Yahoo group please forgive the double post. I am Bill Carney. I am a retired AT&T tech. and currently employed as a jailer/dispatcher for the city of Sallisaw, OK PD. I am completely new to Subarus and will need lots of advice. Just purchased this My advice needs start with the motor being here The heads and intake being here and various other parts being here I think I can handle this by throwing money at it The story is that the previous owner was in the process of replacing the heads when a storm blew a tree limb through the windshield. He gave up and sold the BRAT to my brother in law, who sold it to me. Thanks in advance for your help Bill
