  1. Oh wow, this looks excellent! Almost like it were made that way.
  2. I've been driving past this one yard/dealership named "Llyod's" for a few years now, and he always has several Subaru's. Some of them are a bit more rusted than others, but, it might be a good place to stop by if you're driving through East Durham. Yes, you can search "Llyod's of East Durham" in Google, and it'll come up. Number's posted and was told to call for any appointments to look over the things at his yard. Nice guy, and definitely knows his stuff on these cars.
  3. I found the tutorials in this thread.
  4. I was also referred to this place and haven't found my way up there yet.
  5. Try NY 145 North over the Hudson. I know I've seen a lot of places in Durham and other small towns that have a lot of 80's and 90's models... Wanted to work my way up it today myself, but, I have to fix a crappy exhaust manifold on a Mustang... Hah.
  6. Right, so now that I can sit down and introduce myself a bit more... I managed to inadvertently find this forum while looking over Milesfox's tutorials for the EA82. Kudos to you for really putting this car into perspective for me. Past that, I appreciate the advice those of you gave on what to do with my Legacy and Loyale... yeah... the front drive pair... I did get the Legacy fixed, $1300 later (Not awful, 5 year warranty on the unit... Overdrive works great too, even the kickdown). Anyway, I'm mostly here for info, and maybe to drop names of places I happen to see older Subaru's. I try not to spring for anything newer than a 96 myself, so... Heh. Good to meet you guys otherwise. Edit: http://tinypic.com/r/309k0gy/5 Yep, they're ugly, but they're my cars and they've both been real good to me. Ignore the possible tacky foil tape and other crude use of duct tape.
  7. Correct. I am missing 4th and Reverse on my Legacy. I had been told this could be the whole tranny, the diff, or the torque converter (same thing?), it'd be some at least $1500 to have a shop do. I'm going to spend tomorrow (today) calling around and at least checking on prices for it, because I after thinking about it, I don't want to tear apart the reliable car. Still leaves me up on the Loyale tho, but the garage space is the same for either car.
  8. Each of them was that different? I thought the similar body years shared specifications and such.
  9. Did you happen to see how HUGE the Engine/Tranny section is? (sections 2 and 3?) Here. And the index? I'm missing 4 and 5. Long story. No seriously. There's at least a 1000 pages in this book alone. They are "Fuji Heavy Industries" labeled manuals. They're not "repair" manuals. They're "service" manuals. Not sure if you guys know the difference, but... It's huge. This stuff makes Haynes/Chilton look like children's books.
  10. If I manage to come across a decent, cheap flatbed scanner... Then yes. Otherwise, for the meantime, I have my Droid Bionic, so taking photos with it isn't too bad.
  11. This is the impression I'm being given through the writeups. Though I'm starting to also debate just finding any cheap auto and just sucking up what I don't like about the Legacy (IE it being automatic, parts being more expensive). After all... The tranny IS the only thing I've ever had go wrong with it. Get another 50K and it's worth it?
  12. Hey guys, just wanted to chime in here and let you all know I have these at my complete and total disposal. http://i42.tinypic.com/2q8rknp.jpg They have a lot of really indepth info http://i43.tinypic.com/97v1ux.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/2nrj9t.jpg So if anyone needs, well uh, anything but suspension and things pertaining solely to the brakes? Feel free to come PM me. I'll do my best to help.
  13. It does sound a bit like something you'd come up with at a bar, that's for sure! Even so, I'm probably going to order the adapter kit with the flywheel since it seems to be the way to simplify this entire process. Does that kit also include the offset bolts? And what other bolts would I use to rebolt it, anyway? I imagine the ones off the EJ tranny since they are the correct thread/dia. as the holes on the engine. I'm going to harbor freight next week to buy the jacks and such. I'll be sure to post some photos of the progress once I get the Legacy settled into the garage.
  14. Awesome, that's the best thing I've heard in two months! After having read over the writeup again, can the XT6 flywheel be bolted on just the way it is to my EJ engine? Wasn't sure what the story is with that, or whether it also needed to be redrilled in the same manner, or if the clutch kit from it can be used in the same manner to perhaps reduce strain on the EA82 tranny since it's referred to being used for "street cars". Also, erm, flex plate should otherwise be equal to a flywheel, if I'm not mistaken? In either case, thank you again for your time, GD.
  15. I touched on this subject in the reply to Gloyale. The EJ engine also appears to be the relatively same weight as the EA's... So I'm only trying to find out what actual "modifcations", physically, need to be made to the Loyale in order to make it work. As for the wiring, I'm not deterred by it. It's just a matter of taking the time and, as the PDF says, getting down to what is "necessary" to make it work, properly, and not rushing the final outcome. It's been two months to lead me to this decision, and I've already put down the garage space to get the cars in there. I just need to know what works with what from the engine to the rest of the Loyale, specifically. Nothing else really matters entirely, and I greatly appreciate you guys taking the time out to answer these questions.
