  1. Oh this was the 80 dl 2wd wagon she was cherry but no more... thats ok it was kindof cool to watch tho.
  2. Well the subaru is totaled........ had it parked out at a recreation area (helping a buddy of mine fix is Unimog that broke down) and the front half got ran over by a lifted ford super duty crew cab (44's and all) the good news is the guy is going to pay me 1200 for the car the bad news is there is literaly no good sheet metal left to it. (car got hung up on his lift and folded around the rear tires) He did't see the sand colored subaru at the botom of the hill untill it was too late. (glad I was under the Unimog at the time) The ru did not give up with out a fight though. It took out 2 44" boggers and a drive shaft. He was not too happy about that and at first tried to say it was my fault. The Police were called and they wrote him a ticket and I got a ride home in a nice unimog. So now I have a truck (bought a chevy crew cab dually from a friend for little change) I might get some pics of the car later this week.
  3. My 80 dl wagon has the bosses in the pillar. Does your pillar have a covering? (mine is metal) It might be there under the covering....
  4. Thanks for the kind words. I am still going to go back to the gym (after I get rid of my cold) I have a goal that I am going to complete someday. (I already have competed in a few local events a few years ago) I want to be in a worlds strongman contest. So I guess a little misguided criticism is ok every once and a while. But I do agree about the usual snobbery from that type. Oh and my car had a nice backfire on the way out (choke on and fast letoff of the throttle) I think she spilled her coffee tho
  5. YAVOL just had to tell some one about it. (wife was asleep)
  6. Ok so here I go, I walked out of this coffie shop tonight to my ru (the 80 wagon that is cherry) and pop open the door. There in front of the coffie shop sits these skinny (like anorexic(SP?)) girls there that are like staring at me (me 6'5" 350lbs not in the greatest of shape but I have seen alot worse than me) so I do my usual squish contortionist thing to get in and the skinniest one almost chokes on her coffie. (I mean it was totaly going out her nose) the other ones just laugh looking at me and she regains composure and said that was disgusting looking right at me....... So I say thanks..... She just says whatever and I drive off..... Brused ego and all. So now I have a complex about driving the subaru.. Stupid anorexic people. Anyhow anyone have a Legacy wagon they want to trade me now....... Or how about buy this thing from me for oh $1000...... Damn it now I want to eat something.... lol oh well need to go to bed. Adam
  7. buy mine anyhow I have been driving my ea71 gen 2 wagon and it is like driving a sewing machine just keeps on trucking along. let me know if you want info on it.
  8. ok so what would be the "best" of the EA82 as far as all round vehicle. (keep in mind I have a turbo motor that I can get for cheap)
  9. Junk yard parts here are not a problem I have sourced many just parts for a conversion. I just would hate to butcher a low mile car you know. (the jeep thing is only a last resort) I took my ru to "Red Sands" on my way to the airport. WEEEEEE. It did fine but I would have had more fun in 4wd with a little more suspention travel. has any one here lifted a 2wd yet? kinda thinking a pre runner.
  10. Ok here is my perdicament. I have 1 cherry 1980 dl wagon with 69k on the clock, I want a 4x4, now should I.... A) Perform a complete motor/driveline swap find a cheap 4x4 ru and do the same C) Sell the ****ing thing and get a nice 4x4 D) just bite the bullit and get a jeep E) Quit waisting your time and just be ahppy with what I have I might be interested in a trade for a good running/driving 4x4 (would prefer some mods and maybe a lift) I am also not too scared of a little rust (I can always source a good body to stuff the guts in).
  11. Yep. they both are sitting on the rotors... There is another one there that looks like it is a 4x4 wagon.... single headlight.
  12. I will get some pics (if my camera holds up)....
  13. Oh and what kind of mechanic are you going to be in the Air Force? I just got out from being a jet engine mechanic.....
  14. Yep I got nuts...... oops I mean the nuts (ok bad humor but I am tired)
  15. I don't know if it is factory but there is a Gen 1 in a yard here with 1.....
  16. Does any one know if we can use the ones with the washers??? Also I have found a set of 5 plus another 2 in awsome shape.... Thinking about using them for road wheels for now untill I get a 4x4.
  17. Hey I can relate my home computer only works half of the time. needs a complete overhaul. but that is what you get fo 400 bucks new lol
  18. There is a Gen 1 with an ok passenger side tail light there. (slight cracking but no missing stuff) I did not see any jump seats but will look again....
  19. What about the t top windows? I will go back tomorrow and look maybe remember to bring my camera. (got the bugs figured out) The yard is going to be closed for a month so maybe I can "convince" the owner to let me give him a business proposition. here anything plastic is eaten by the sun. but I will look at the bucket seats to see. tail lights are all gone/shot.
  20. Ok I was in another Junk yard today (big surprise) and found a very straight and complete 1976 wagon dl 2wd (minute rust) nice faded orange paint. Just curious on how rare this was, and found a 1600 fwd coupe (around the same vintage) with a 5 sp. Oh and another thing there was a EA82t sedan with a 5sp dual range It looked factory and not a modded car. there was other doodads there i/e an 87 s/w 4x4 n/a with a dual range setup. and a bunch of gen 1 brats. a few gen 2 brats.
  21. Ok I stand corrected. (you might know my dad at Boeing his name is George) Like I have said my experiances is with watercooled vw's.
  22. Ok I might be wrong, but one of the people that told me that is a mechanical engineer (works at boeing), and another does compressor maps at Garret (my spelling sucks today) they said that the exhaust pulsations would wreak havoc on the turbine wheel and it would not last long. (I was looking at twin turboing my 1980 rabbit with a 2.0 16v that I had built to run pikes peak) Granted I do not have the years of experiance but I do trust my sourses. Oh and with the supercharger I agree about the robing power from the engine but they make more than they take and the boost is instantanious. When you couple them both you get the best of both worlds. In the article in Import Car they said that the trubo picked up where the supercharger left off. The turbo also started to "push" the supercharger internaly and that lessened the drag on the engine at higher speeds.
  23. There is only one problem with twin turboing a 4 cyl. If they are not sequential (one after another) the exhaust pulsations will wreak havocc on the turbo. As far as I know you have to have 3 cyl for each turbo. I will see if I can find the documentation on this. (I have read it before) but a twin sequential turbo would rock. no lag and lots of boost. or maybe a turbo and a super charger. There is a Toyota MR2 that I have seen that is set up that way. hmmmmm ;use a charger off of a tbird with a t3 from a Saab now that would be a unique setup. Or a T4 fed off of the IHI that is stock for the AE-82 turbo.....
  24. Several of them decent. I know of 2 that are 95% rust free. (the one I drove in the Junk yard today has some rust in the pass rear QP on the bottom. but there are several (in the same JY) that are in equaly good shape body wise.
  25. The 87 seems to be all good (minus some typical interior wear and tear) the 78 I am going to offer 300 (just to be a prick) and see how fast the guy's face turns red...... He has gouged me a few times and I have a diecent relationship with his Daughter so lets see what happens. I am selling my 72 Suzuki GT750 to fund this prospect.
