  1. well i pulled off my maf harness for fun and it runs fine now......i guess i messed up a wire or two.......time to retrace, thanks for the suggestions i will update if i find the problem
  2. well im list of problems is narrowing down now, current issue....my ea82t is having trouble reving past 3k...almost seems like its running out of fuel, but it shouldnt be...i will go buy a pressure gauge tomorrow. it seems to boost rather fast even without a load on the engine. i dont have the wastegate controler....would that be cutting off my fuel?? thanks guys
  3. problem solved, wen i was hooking up the alt. i must have shorted a connection in the maf. the computer never threw a code for it but thats what it was!!
  4. allright subaru heads, heres what happened.........car was running great, then i hooked up the alternator....car starts then dies after a few seconds....i unhooked it....starts fine and runs good again...i recheck the alternator and hook back up same problem starts then dies.....sooo i unhook it again and this time the problem persists, it will start and idle for 10s or so, if you hit the gas in that time it wont rev just bogs and dies right away????? any ideas, maybe the ecu bit the dust
  5. ok well i got that problem figured out, but now i hooked up my alternator and the car would start then quit so i unhooked it and it was ok again. thhheeennn i reattched it and same thing so i unhooked it and now the car will only start for about 10-20s and die...........what did i do!!!!! :(
  6. well I finally got my ea82t mpfi up and running, however one issue remains. with the fuel pump on (its on a toggle switch) the car will start and run if you hit the throttle and will run ok if you keep revin it up beyond 2k or so, but it wont idle. now if turn off the pump it will idle great and rev nicelt too until it runs out of gas. any ideas on this, i know the ecu is supposed to control the pump so maybe thats my problem (i think ive read posts about others running the punp off a toggle and having it work fine) anyways if anyone can help that would be great..........thanks!!
  7. that seems a little slow to me, my old xt4 turbo had no problem hittin 100. maybe a tune up is in order? how does the car pull in 2nd and 3rd?
  8. sorry, its an ea82t mpfi turbo. i was looking last night and found a large vacuum connecter on the intake in front of the fpr, now i have no idea where this is supposed to hook up to so i just plugged it for now, maybe that has something to do with this problem?
  9. allrighty well heres my current problem. with the fuel pump switched on the car starts up fine but then seems to flood out, if you turn off the pump it will come to idle fine and then die as i runs out of fuel. so somthing must be wierd with the fuel pressure regulator, the return line is fine and is spitting out fuel as it should be. any ideas on what would cause this?
  10. hey guys finally got my engine running, but i cant get the fuel pump to work right i hooked it up to the battery to to get it to turn on but that seemed to supply to much fuel after 10s or so. i was thinking it was because i have all 3 power leads hooked up to a constant 12v so the ecu never turns on the pump. so if any one could tell me which of the leads is switched that would make my day! or if you know what else would cause the pump not to go thx!!!
  11. ya its very wierd. the injectors are wired correctly assuming they are numbered the same as the cylinders. i will try rotating the disty alltough it should already be correct as should the cam timing since it came out of a well running car. it shouldnt be anything electrical because theres spark and fuel. ahhh tiem for a break thanks again!
  12. ok well that took awhile but it looks good, so im at a loss here. i think im going to pull the motor again and directly wire only the systems it needs to start. now i need a bit of a list on things to skip. purge control egr sensor hmmm thats all i can think of at the moment. if you have any other ideas on why this thing wont start let me know or this motor is outta there, lol. thanks guys
  13. allright will do, time to get out the sawsall, my disty is located under the rear deck of my bug
  14. well i hooked up the wastegate solinoid with no results other than the error code going away. checked the plug wires they all look right. so once again im confused, lol. any thoughts?
  15. allright well i'll try that. it does really seem like a timing issue. its getting fuel and spark. it coughs and pops like the timing is out of whack but the wierd thing is i never touched anything to do with the timing when i put the engine in and it came out of a well running car. i will quadruple check the plug wires right now and hook up the wastegate solinoid
  16. thanks caleb, i took a look last night and pulled a code 44. hopefully thats my problem! now to figure out how to hook it up, lol. its only a 2 wire connecter so one must either be power or ground and the other must go to the ecu. FSM here I come!!!!!!!!
  17. yep first thing i checked. everything looks a-ok. would having the wastegate electronics disconnected cause a no start situation? if not i must have the injectors mixed up.
  18. thats what i was thinking too, the motor came out of a well running car and i didnt touch the disty, so shouldnt the timing still correct?. it must be getting fuel and spark to be coughing and popping so it makes sense that its just not doing it at the right time. does anyone know if the injectors are numbered the same as the cylinders, i suppose its possible i wired them in the wrong order
  19. well guys thanks for all the help so far, ive got the buggy almost running buuuuut not quite. heres what it does, when you turn it over she will just cough and pop. its gettin spark and fuel. one thing i am thinking is that its in a constant fuel cut situation because i didnt use any of the electronics attached to the wastegate. any other ideas? oh and its an ea82t engine and the ecu isnt throwing any codes at me
  20. well i was looking at the fsm and it shows the injector wires 1-2 and 3-4 connecting into one then splitting back to each injector? just wonding why and if its necessary heres the pic
  21. thanks i'll have a look, the local wrecker just got a mpfi wagon in so i need to scoop this resistor up. if anyone knows excatly where please post!
  22. hey guys i was just wondering if someone could fill me in on the location of the resistor pack on an 87 mpfi wagon? thanks!!
  23. I was just wondering if anyone runs there mpfi ea82t without the injector resistor pack and if so how is it? im having some troubles getting my hands on one
