Removing engine without hoist
cpreset replied to erikvr's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i would image it would be like dropping a bugs motor a guy on each head and a fair amount of patience. just looking at it it should be easier because you can just pick it up and out of the bay just drain the motor. tried to drop a bug full of oil and that was a pain sorry forgot tolook at post date -
its nice to see i started a good discussion on fi. the only reason I am putting fi on mine is so i don't have to deal with the p.i.t.a. Hitachi carb and because I'm in ca i cant just throw on a Weber and I'm not up to the task of pulling the motor yet but when i do i will throw an ej turbo but i just need a car to get me to work and school.
-
ok thanks for the tips all i have to do is save up some cash
-
ya cali is pretty strict on stuff like that so its still just a thought in my head tired of fighting my Hitachi. nice to see another west-coaster
-
would but i think just swapping the intake would be cheaper and i dot have to get it bar certified by the state. but that's why im asking
-
well im tired of my carb and im thinking of swapping to fi good idea bad idea. any tips, how much can this cost? its an 85 gl hatch ea81 with the 2bbl Hitachi feedback
-
well i look at the ecu light ad its a error code 63 so that's the canister purge solenoid would the effect this?
-
how would i go about that would i need a rebuild kit?
-
OK well the anti dieseling solenoid is working just fine ad the choke is good and i also changed my o2 sensor just in case because it is a calif car so its a feedback carb
-
is it EA 81 or EA 82?

most cases have it stamped on them should be to the left of the disty -
OK i got another question is the choke meant to be to be riveted on?
-
OK well so far I have changed both gas filters ad the air filter and checked the vac lines and replaced the ones that needed it still no success it is still dieing when warm so next i have on my list is to do as Ivan said
-
no i haven't but it supposedly has a new one ill check it in the morning
-
Car: 85 gl hatch with a ea 81 Okay so here's what is happening i just tested this my car it will not run with the choke open but if i pull the chokes fuse and have it shut it runs just fine just a little underpowered from the lack of air because of the choke being on but i dose not die like if the choke was open. so what the hell is happening
-
Well this went from an issue to a problem it wont idle while warm anymore and the only thing i did was change how the person before me hooked the power to the radio which was through the fuse for the choke and now it wont idle while warm and it runs rough when i keep it running with my foot
-
i guess ill take a look into it thanks
-
hmm do you think seafoam would help?
-
ok thanks for the tip
-
Okay here it goes well my idle on my 85' gl wont kick down to around 7-800 rpms and will only stay around 1,500-2,000 untell its warms up then it kicks down to 500 for one or two stops then after that it idles just fine to were it should. so my question to the tech savy people on this for what should i do?
