  1. Got an '86 Brat. Y pipe rotted out. found a firm that remanued them, brought it to my local long time muffler shop. when done presents me with bill after I pay he says "there's still one little problem, the studs are stripped and we can't tighten the exhaust pipes to the header! A muffler shop that can't deal with stripped or broken studs? Anyway wound up going to a custom shop who says he can fix but wants me to get original equipment studs. My local Subaru stores' parts computer does not go back tha far in time. Is there anyone out there who knows or is aware of where I can get the OEM specs for those studs? Sorry for longwinded story but I need help. Denem
  2. Had to replace the "Y" pipe and converter rot thru. Found a direct replacement and brought to my local muffler expert. when he called to have me pick up he tells me that he couldn't tighten the ports to the head as the studs were spinning when attempt to tighten. (one on each side) When I get it home and do a closer inspection it looks as thought there is a spacer, or some type of fitting between the head and the exhaust flange, and the studs are in this part rather than the head itself. I realize this is wordy but if this is the case it may be an easier fix than I first thought. I'm not getting any help from my Chilton manual. Any input is appreciated. Thanx Denem

  4. Are you still shopping that big ol "Roo" bar or is it gone?
  5. Getting ready to rework the front end but some questions for the veterans, found some good axles for the front and am giving serious thought to replacing the struts just because of age. The body has a 3" lift and my thought is that the standard shock/strut wouldn't be right, Lengthwise. is there a different strut that I should use? Any help or experiences any of you might have will be greatly appreciated.
  6. Thanx for the prompt replies. I didn't do the lift, but from what I can see there are are what appears to be aluminum disks mounted at upper mounting spaces for the struts and metal blocks at the cross-member and various body points. The steering column was extended but that is the only evidence of change to the structure. From what I observe only the body was moved. That prompts my concerns. I have been to several Subaru Dealerships and it is not possible to procure any OEM parts. Is there a newer model that utilizes those axles? And lastly to which aftermarket firm should I look for replace, men. Thanx for your time!
  7. I've an 86 Brat w/4" lift no real issues..except, last year at 105K the right CV boot disintegrated. So I replaced both axles. Now at 108K my new left joint is complaining. I am wondering if the lift issue is contributing. it seems wrong to even think it would. any ideas, insights, or experiences? Thanx Denem
  8. Are you still holding the seats and frames?
  9. Thanx for taking the time to reign in. all advise is well appreciated.
  10. I have an '86 Brat that has no real problems. last fall while hunting we noticed a burnt oil smell Found a split boot on the rignt CV joint. made eat lled thand in Jan replaced both front axles with FEQ shafts. Recently I smelrd that odor again. No joint noise, the boots are are intiact, but both hubs are spitting grease. I cant seem to find a "contact us"button on the FEQ website. th My parts guy found some info fromem but it seems to be waiver of responsibility if the shafts are too close to heat sources. My boots have no cracks and pliable and soft The bands appear to be tight and i have less than 2K on them. Anyone out there experience anything like this?

    My '87 Brat

Congrats on the find. I have an '86 thaat I have been playing(?) with for the past few months. I noticed you said the prior owner threw in two sets of jump seats, I have been looking for a pair of seats and a roll bar since I got my Brat, without success. I don't think you will have too much luck for fenders by ou but there is a yard in southwest Indiana that has a ton of old Subes and Brats. Good luck and stay in touch.

    My '87 Brat

Looks to be in nice shape! congrats on the find. Noticed you said he included two sets of jump seats. Wanna get rid of one set? I have an '86 I have been playing(?) with for the past few months. Been looking for seats and a roll bar with little success. I dontknow how far north you are but there is a yard in South Indiana with a ton of old brats. Keep in touch and have fun.
  13. Anyideaof the cost and the shippjng damage to Illinois?
  14. Nice work. I'm soo jealous. picked up an'86 that is pristine, but would kill for a roll bar and a pair of seats just cant seem to find any. keep at it !
  15. Any plans for other styles for other models? What kind of pricing and shipping plans? Ever consider roll bars?
