  1. I am exploring new tires. I have a quote for TOYO SPECTRUM for $345 or FALKEN (yokohama?) from Big O for $306. Or NANKANG (not sure, but they may be Yokohama as well) for $245. Any experience with the last two brands? It's for my '92 Legacy Touring Wagon, mostly city driving, 12K a year, one long trip per year. Some snow. Thanks!
  2. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet. I'm used to Toyota 4 cylinders. I didn't choose the turbo, it just came that way. I'm learning.
  3. I am wondering if I can get a way with a lower octane in my '92 Legacy Touring Wagon, turbo. It calls for premium on the gas cap, but here at 6500 feet we can use a lower grade. I use mid-grade and don't really see any problems but am wondering what could happen. Is it possible to use the lowest grade once in awhile? I can't afford premium even when gas is not out of this world!

  5. It's the plastic thing that covers the turbo area--not the chimney. A friend just glued the thing back together and put back one of the plastic plug things so we'll see if it stays put.
  6. I have a 1992 Turbo Wagon and the plastic cover that goes over the turbo has fallen off (and is broken). Do I need to replace it? What is its purpose? Does anyone know where I can get one if it is needed? I'm in Colorado Springs. Thanks!
  7. Well so far so good. The filter got changed yesterday (not a project I wanted to tackle) and I've only driven it a few miles but it is definately better. They said you couldn't blow through it!
  8. I had a tuneup done last Friday and they told me I needed the fuel injectors cleaned. At the time I only had a quarter tank of gas. I drove the car home and the next day it ran worse. I filled up and drove it a few miles at a higher speed to try to get chemicals distributed. It's been several days now and it is worse--almost stalling out when in gear at lights. Seems to get better when I put it in neutral (it's an automatic). I went to the garage where the work was done and they said my fuel filter might be clogged from the cleaning. Should I be concerned about their ability. Does that sound reasonable? I don't wnat to pay even more if I don't need to. What should I be looking at???? I shelled out $400 for a fuel pump a few months ago! Thanks!
  9. Goofd to hear. I haven't had to use good traction yet and am hoping to get some more miles out of these tires before I HAVE to replace them. Am looking for a good sale somewhere. At least I have several options to look at now.
  10. QMan-- what do you mean by 1/2 size too big? Which number? I am trying to learn the mysteries of tire numbering!
  11. i have a thread going on tires on the older generation subaru board. Check out the great responses. I still haven't decided what to get. Still researching.....
  12. Back again and reviewing your suggestions. I currently have Toyo 800 Ultra 205/60/R15 on them now. I bought the car in May with those tires so don't know how old they are or anything about them. No records came with the car. It is a '92 Legacy Touring Wagon, turbo. I drive mostly city, to and from work, around town, lots of stop and go. Very little highway except a once a year 3000 mile trip. We just had an inch of snow yesterday so I'll see how much traction I have when I drive to work today. I had never heard of Toyo before. I'll keep watching your suggestions. Thanks!
  13. Anyone have experience with these tires on a subaru? I have read good reviews that compare them with Michelins for much less. How about snow traction?
  14. I am at the point where I need new tires on my '92 Legacy Touring Wagon. What are your opinions on good all-season tires? I am not looking to spend a lot of money and need good snow traction without snow tires. Do I replace all 4 at once? Any other tire tips? BTW my new fuel pump did the trick. Hope I didn't spend a lot of money for a simple connector problem!
  15. Thanks--I would love to find a good Subaru guru. I am in Colorado Springs (Nevada/Fillmore area). I go to this guy cause he's 6 blocks away and I can walk home. I had a Mercury before and he was good with it, but he's not a foreign specialist.
  16. Thanks--I passed along this info the the mechanic. How can you tell if that's the problem? He needs to take out the fuel pump assembly? He has never replaced a Subaru fuel pump--should I be worried? He's done tons of American ones.
  17. EMERGENCY ANSWER NEEDED! I had to have MY '92 LEGACY WAGON towed again yesterday and the mechanic tried to start it this morning. (see my other post for no start.) No start. While whacking on the fuel pump? and trying to start it, it did so he thinks it's the fuel pump. Does that sound right??? Is there anything cheaper it might be that he should check and how should he check for it? It looks like a $450 job otherwise. Also--the only place to get a pump here is the dealer--waaay overpriced. Any other ideas on where to get one? COLORADO SPRINGS. THANKS!
  18. EMERGENCY ANSWER NEEDED! I had to have it towed again yesterday and the mechanic tried to start it this morning. No start. 19. OK--I posted to this board a few days ago with a 92 wagon that wouldn't start. Had it towed and of course it started right up at the shop. Well, I got stranded at work today. No start again. Even went back after an hour and tried again. It is definitely trying to turn over but seems like no fuel is getting there. What are the logical steps to have the mechanic try? I will have it towed tomorrow if it doesn't start in the morning when I go back. I don't want to replace a bunch of stuff and want to keep expenses down as we try to determine what might be causing the problem. What would you do???
  20. It is trying to turn over, but just doesn't make it, almost like a fuel problem. Still listen for the clicking? Or is that if it doesn't make any noise?
  21. I am having an intermittant problem with my car not starting. It happened yesterday for the first itme in several months. Unfortunately I had it towed so that the shop could see what it was doing, and of course, it started right up at the shop. I'm afraid it will happen at night or in a distant place. Anyone lknow where to start? It tries to crank but doesn't catch. My battery is good. It's a turbo. I read the post of the 95 legacy and this is similar. I have replaced the temp sensor and the check engine light does not come on. Thanks!!!
  22. I need help figuring out what I need to do with my power steering fluid pump and hoses. I have a leak that I think is from the upper hose connection that drips on the exhaust and freaks everyone out who are next to me at stoplights. I replaced the clamps (they were spring clamps and I put on screw clamps) It still leaks and now I think the upper hose has been cut by the clamp. Are they expensive hoses to replace? I am heading out on a 5000 mile trip and want to fix it before I go. Should I use psf stop leak? What should I tell my mechanic? Thanks!
  23. What is the brand on that? Do I just squirt it down the pedal shaft from the floorboard???
