  1. I installed a japanese import ea82t in my 90 loyale and am ready to start it up, how do I prime the engine with oil to ensure that she does not suffer from a dry start? Thanks all
  2. I am swapping an ea82t engine out for a new one in my Subaru Loyale. Where are the engine lifting hooks located? Can I reuse the front engine mounting bolts, my engine came with out these and the ones that are still in place on the junk engine have the nut off of them but the bolt stayed with the block, can I remove them once the engine is pulled out? And can I pull the engine out without removing the turbo? looks like I should have enough room. Thank You Joe
  3. I am thinking about buying this engine off of ebay, looks good to me. Ebay item number : 8047144207. Has anyone bought from this company. Also where is a good step by step engine pull and install. Is there anyway to damage the engine or tranny suring this procedure I should watch out for. My subaru is a 1990 loyale Turbo.
  4. The stub fit back in perfectly, replaced fron suspension and have driven 700 miles without any bad signs yet.
  5. I have a 1990 loyale turbo automatic. I need a new axle and ordered one from napa. It wasnt the right one. The 1990 loyale has a beaffier axle then my 87 GL, they are not innerchangeable the 87 is too small to fit around the tranny stub, the one that napa got me fits the 87 GL but not the 90 loyale. Does anyone know a part number for these axles because napa does not, and neither does subaru of kirkland. They are all unable to distinguish the my 90 axle from the other one. Thank you
  6. I need a hub for a 1990 subaru layle, got in an accident with a curb, not too bad, but I need a new hub. Anyone know of a good junk yard that will have one of these in the seattle area. Thank you
  7. My stub does have a circle clip stil on it that came from inside the transmission/dif housing. Is this the peice that if it was still in the tranny would be the problem. I will post a pic tonight or tomarrow depending on work hours for verifacation. Thank you all very much and I appreciate any opinions
  8. My 1990 subaru layale had an impact on the front tire resulting in the axle pulling the tranny stub out of the auto tranny. What probably happened to my tranny and how do I diagnose this and how fixable is this problem. I have an excellent 5 speed which I can install if need be, a lot of work but I would love it to be a stick. Also, do the 2 types of trannies basically swap or are there dxrive shaft changes and such that need to be done, I will search more but so far havent found good posts, can anyone direct me to a few.
  9. The axle stub came out of my driver. It has had a bad axle for a while and I hit a rock pretty hard going up stevens pass "High way 2" and knew something had broke. Towed home by AAA. Is there anyway to tell the extent of the damage. What do I probably need to replace on the stub entrance to the tranny. My haynes will probaly help, im at work now so I am trying to gather info while I wait.
  10. Please elaborate on these problems, as I would love to know. I have a parts car with a great 5 speed in it, is replaceing the whole thing going to be my best bet. Cuz there aint no stub where their was before.
  11. I hear you loud and clear on getting a new one, but this axle was in great shape so im gonna go for it. Any one have any thoughts on the axle pulling out of the dif with the pin and stub that is supposed to release the axle from the dif? Also what is a good lube to use on the hub bearings, they are good but will need lube.
  12. The front passenger axle on my 1990 subaru loyale broke and I was wondering if I could use the drivers side axle from a 1987 subaru of mine to replace it, are axles reversable? Also, It broke from the differential side and pulled out the part that the pin disconnects from the axle. Everything looks okay in there but was wondering if that pretty much means I will have to replace the seals. Can the part be manually removed? So I can switch that part out from the 87 to the 90. Thanks all
  13. I do not know what the IAC or the CTS is. I think I can pass by disconnecting the PCV system. It brings the Idle down to a rough 400. Normally I would try to fix it right but I cant legaly drive the car cuz it hasnt been registered for over a year, and I need to start driving it tomarrow. Thanks.
  14. I failed emissions because my idle was at 1500 in neutral on my 1990 Loyale 1.8 Turbo. I need to know how to adjust the idle and if it could possibly be a hose leak or something. Thanks in advance.
  15. I just bought my second subaru GL and the water pump started dripping from the whole in the very bottom of the water pump. This exact same thing happened to my last subaru and I replaced the pump (The rings wore through about a week later) I still have the busted sube with a bran new water pump. My new subaru has a fan connected to the water pump but the water pump on the broken subaru does not have a fan connecter on it. Can I use the water pump without a fan in place of one with a fan, there by taking the mechanical fan off and only having an electric one, like my last subaru. The car already runs well below the middle of the thermometer and the only difference between the engines is the turbo. Any one KNow? Thanks in advance
  16. Okay, so please tell me more about the valve cover O rings, as I did not change those out when I did the head gasket. How should I check for the valves leaking, and also how could they leak out of the valves onto the manifold unless the gasket was faulty. The turbo and all the pipes and hoses for oil have been replaced by my mechanic. Is there any way to know besides replacing the O rings in the valve cover that they are the problem. what is the difference between the down pipe and the cat in the down pipe? is the cat the sheild?
  17. I recently took my subaru in because it had a burnt out turbo, the turbo had been smoking badly for about a month and my old mechanic said I could drive it as long as I kept refilling oil. I did and the turbo burnt up. Went to a new mechanic, told him what had hapened and had a turbo replaced with a rebuilt turbo, seemed like a good deal. This engine is excellent, it has bran new head gaskets, I installed with the help of an experienced amatuer mechanic and there are no signs of that being the problem, nothing comes out of the tail pipe besides exhaust. I just got the car back and the car burns oil that is coming up from right next to where the exhaust exits the turbo, NOTHING is coming out the exhaust though. I have checked PCV system and it is running great. Also my mechanic left off the hard to get at bolt where the turbo intakes the exhaust, that made me mad and made me think that these guys are not good, I want to know what other possibilites this smoke could be resulting from. As far as I can brainstorm it seems the turbo is the only thing. Because this is a bran new turbo and I dont know anything about turbos and do not want to be taken advantage of. Thank you for your time.
  18. The turbo is shot Im now sure of it. It started smoking more but I still drove it because I kind of had to and nothing seemed wrong besides that when finally the turbo got much worse lost some power and it now makes a lot of noise from the turbo. Getting new one soon. Does a definately busted turbo cause the engine to run very under powered, it still idles great and the engine sounds like always.
  19. I can't find the names when searching, what are some of the better junk yards to check out, looking for a ea82 turbo. thanks
  20. The turbo had a leak and the mechanic said I could drive with it, but he could only diagnose it as a internal leak. Any ways I was driving it and The oil caught on fire, i beleive, and burned something cuz now the turbo makes a noise of metal rubbing or soemthing. And it kicks out a lot more smoke, the car still runs and idles alright but the turbo seems to make it run at a lot less power. Any help, I am assuming it will need to be replaced at best.
  21. My turbo has an internal oil leak, not horrible but definately annoying. How tricky is the process of going into a turbo 1 the easiest 10 the hardest. Also any tips on the most likely problem inside their would be most helpful.
  22. My head gaskets are in and the engine is back together. It runs excellent and I am almost 100 percent sure the gaskets arent the problem, but now the car is burning oil. Once the car heats up the oil pressure runs a little lower then it should and smoke starts coming up from right at the turbo. It always starts up perfectly when cold but once it is heated up and the oil pressure has dropped some, if I turn it off and start it back up sometimes I will have to turn it over until the engine gets up to speed. Also I accidentally loosened some of the turbo screws in the head gasket installation due to my newbie status, I think that might be the problem. My pcv sustem is fine. I also have an exhaust leak that is loud right under the turbo. Any help would be appreciated.
  23. The exhaust has a leak near the turbo, it is kind of loud. I think my pcv valve is in terrible condition cuz I havent changfed it since before the head gasket was blown and some of the pipes were filled with crud. I can see some bubbeling coming out of one of the turbo gaskets, this might mean bad seal but it doesnt seem to be smoking from there. I will work with the pcv system and see what I find.
  24. Finished the head gasket job on my 1990 loyale 1.8 EA82 Turbo and started it up. It seems to no leak coolant as before and runs excellent but still burns oil, mostly smokes up right where the turbo meats the intake, from underneath so I cant pinpoint a spot. ALso when the engine is hot and is turned off, it doesnt start as easy as when it is cold, I have to turn it over for a while and give it gas. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Joe
