  1. One other thing.... i know you said you dont use roll pins.. but I learned from my oldtimer local subaru mechanic that did my clutch.. he told me he see's it thousands of times people SMASH the roll pin into place and it's a mother to get them out.. and that's because there is a slight .030 of an inch that the holes don't line up.. so take it out a flip it.

I didn't just replace my rear axle shaft.. I replaced the whole Dammed axle swing and brake assembly! Kinda painless that way... but I practically lost the brake line connection in doing so... ha ha ha!glad your cruising again!

  2. Dude I had that same problem once.. supposedly and I got it a couple times easy.. to get it off we slip a small screw driver in the back access hole we already know that part it retracts the shoes and the drum pulls off..

Should be the same in reverse order.. springs, then the adjuster.. return spring then fold the shoes on install the retaining clip and it explodes again parts everywhere!! Get mad! Get a cup of coffee and smoke.. look at it again!

Repeat process get it together.. look at it poke at it question it .. carefully move assembly to center it then in stall drum squarely as possible.. use a soft mallet tap it lightly... should go on..

Other than that I would be questioning the diameter of the axle shaft..

Take break and take in some YouTube miles fox subaru... it will be alright man we know ????

  3.

So just curious guys, running an aftermarket oil gauge would give you a better reading??? than the stock gauge in our clusters?

I had/still have an after market, but it's disconnected.. it wigged out and died, a couple months later either broke the needle or the sending unit after putting Risoline in the oil, so don't you Risoline, then again I had massive oil leaking at the time too...
  4. I think that is what the other person already tried...In this link was my delima.. the pictures I took have white paint marks where the gasket failed, but importantly exactly where a water passage/jacket there was no paint marker needed as it should have been ovbviousphttp://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/155547-my-compression-test-resultsea82/?do=findComment&comment=1332752

  5. I would get a new radiator.. then I would leave the rad cap on and look inside the resivor for a stream of bubbles 1 about every so often if idiling ... if hot they will appear alot faster like all the time that sir would be a head gasket failure situation..

I had investigated my problem backwards.. whereas I did the head gasket but had heater issues and cooling issues later on which led me to buying a new radiator :) cheap radiators no pun intended.. $ pays to get a new one instead of the wrecking yard..

  6. I think most didn't make it through high school to do that science experiment...lol! Me being one of them.. ;)

You will know for sure come summer.. that's when it went just to the red going up hill and wouldn't drop past 1/2 in the temp box coming down the other side.. for me..it was alright for winter mechanically but didn't produce alot of heat for cabin..

    Keep'er Rolling!!

    Len ????

  7. I personally would be suspicious of the Radiator.. the condition is unknown if it from a donor that ya stated..

New OEM thermostats will make you wonder..because we are used to seeing the same reading eveytime we drive.

I did work had the same weird temp reading most I seen mine go is a little above half just less than a 3/4 but it always dropped back down.. it now sits at just above 1/4with a New OEM thermostat and supposedly new Radiator from Champion.. I only say that because I can see on the lower corners the new paint is not sticking to the old rust.. so far it works been in there for I think almost a yr and a half

Before I Replaced the Radiator "Donor" from the wrecking yard after my work it took a looong time to drop back to 1/4

Another important thing... if you are making your own coolant do not use tap water to mix your coolant.. trust.me i did alot of research on cooling systems lol! Hrs and hrs and hrs ya want distilled..

This link will show you what a failing headgaket/s looks like.. thanks again DaveT and grossgary and others..http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/155547-my-compression-test-resultsea82/?do=findComment&comment=1332752

  8. I will totally agree..

I am going to go with "What is water from above for $200 Alex".

Don't get me wrong though!! I do reside in the Pacific Northwest "Rain Forest" water on the freeway and lots of it at times!! and I drive as much as possible out of the grooves..

I think it's the U Jamb that the edge of the window rolls up into to seal the opening.. suppose I will get the wires tied back away from the window tracks with a bend before it reaches the speaker so the water will drip before hand.. lol!

Just wondering if this was an issue that somebody fixed I searched the threads but no luck.. i searched the internet no luck next stop is youtube...just the normal where's all the oil driping from??? ha ha ha! nOBoDY has water in the doors? Lol!

I also tried looking for replacement jambs.. yeah right?! I had way better luck finding them for my 1970 Pontiac Tempest!!

  9. So I have this issue with water pooling up inside driverside passenger REAR door..

The passenger rear seems to be okee dokey kinda sorta..

About 6 - 8 yrs ago I added a ton of speakers rear doors even a couple 6x9's in the hatch!! Lol!

A couple years back, I had unreasonable set of kkcht bzzt tic bashzbashzzt kkzzt ...

..so anyway I went to investigate speakers, ground connection, connections in general, when I took off rhe door panel and pulled the speaker out I was amazed the Magnet was hanging on by 2 internal wires WOW! NARLEY!! I check the weather gasket around the bottom of the door looks good no rips still intact that would not be the issue anyways and the weep holes are clean and open to let the water drain out..

So once again I'm looking around the window and door..

Initially when I put the system in, it was summertime i did notice water stains on the Lower portion of the door panel and it was pretty warped/deformed.. didn't think much about it ... This time there is water that some how ran down the wires to the connection at the speaker..

I'm looking again probable the U-jamb front and rear the window it's self seals and the gasket at the top does its job pushing the window out to seal the lower against the felt on the door..unless just maybe when cruising the highway water is coming up through the weep holes....

Anybody deal with this issue and fix it?

    Thanks

    LenDawg

  10. Hmm... could be the atmospheric pressure..

I notice the same thing sometimes.. when we had the snow everything was quiet and Susanne was low rumbling truddgin sound.. now it's gone and it's a mere 30 something degrees everything seems a little louder..

Could be the tires too.. I notice the difference between new and old.. the more worn the louder..

  11.

Len: Not sure what you mean by 'twisted'. They only go on one way, don't they?

They do only go on one way.. I was meaning .. as we hang them up out of the way to work on them and when we put them back on the cable and the hose get twisted if we don't watch what we are doing.. possibly but not probable.. I think there is a clip that either broke or the cable detached from around the caliper it's self..

  12. Perhaps the caliper was twisted when reinstalled.. I'm thinking that's what I did.. It was working after brake job for a short time.. Funny thing is I had an emergency slam the brake situation and I heard a pop and felt it.. and that's when my problem started. So I let my passengers freak out when I roll on hills when I park ... then I put it in gear.. going back to revisit soon enough.. I hear the drivers rear bearing or shoe acting up ;)
