  1. Ok, so I checked the fuses, replaced the flasher unit and even the 'combination switch', (the cluster around the steering column) but still there is NO ACTION with the turn signals. The emergency four ways work fine though. Does anyone have any ideas on where I should go from here?? I'm stumped!! Thanks in advance for any advice. J.
  2. Hi guys, I have 93 Impreza that sometimes doesn't start; it just has a little buzz and/or click somewhere under the dash and that's all she does. It'll roll start just fine. Does anyone know where the starter relay is and what it looks like? I'm pretty sure that's what the problem is. Oh ya, and the horn doesn't work either. do you know where that relay is located too? Thanks in advance for your advice.
  3. I made a hook out of a sturdy piece of thick wire and went inside the pin to the other end and hooked it and kinda yanked and pulled until it came out. It's not pretty, but it works just fine. Good luck!
  4. Hi again, Jeff here. Has anyone rebuilt the windshield wiper transmission on an XT?? How hard is it to get that black box that the wiper comes out of apart? Can it be re-bushed? Mine needs it badly. Keeping my fingers crossed for good news, or at least, some news. Thanks, Jeff
  5. Hi guys. I have the EJ comfortably nestled in the engine bay of my '85 XT, and I'm trying to wire the damn thing without any luck at all so far. Please tell me if there's any problem with the set up. It's a '97 Impreza motor with a '96 Legacy CPU and harness. Are they compatible?? The pinout that I have for the computer doesn't seem to match up to the wiring, and there's a plug to the engine that doesn't look right. (it's the small 6 pin one in that cluster of 3 plugs.) I think the wiring is from an automatic 'cause there are too many wires going to the tranny for it to be a manual. (2 big plugs) As far a I can tell, if I plug all the plugs into the motor and the MAF, and the Ignitor, it should fire if everythig is compatable. At least, I should get spark., but I get no spark, or injector action. What's wrong?!?! Any ideas?? Looking forward to advice from the experts. Jeff.
  6. As promised, here's the solution. Indeed Subaru does make a clutch that works for me. It has a 7/8" shaft hole in the disc, with 21 splines and an outside diameter of 8 7/8" (225mm). It is made to fit '83 - '92 Passenger cars, and '86 - '89 light trucks. I got a Fenco Dyna-Pack part no. NU31143. It works perfectly! The XT6 clutch that didn't fit my input shaft had a 1" shaft hole and 24 splines. It was Fenco part no. NU31144. So there is a way to put an EJ 22 in a 2 wheel drive after all. Yipee! Thanks for all your help guys!
  7. Thanks Barracuda. I'm going to exchange the XT6 clutch for an EA82 Turbo clutch and match it up to the flywheels and see which one it fits, John's or my original one. If it fits John's I won't have to drill the mounting holes on mine to fit the EJ shaft, so I hope you're right. I'll post the results as soon as I get the other clutch.
  8. Thanks guys. I figured it'd be something like that. I guess I'll have to go with the turbo clutch, and see if John wants the flywheel back. Converting to 4wd is going a little too far for me right now. I started this project 'cause it seemed pretty easy according to the posts I've read. I didn't realize I had to have 4wd. Oh well, life is a learning experience. Thanks a lot! Jeff.
  9. Hi, my name's Jeff and I'm in need of some wisdom from the experts. I'm putting An EJ22 into my '85 XT, and got John's conversion kit for the XT6 clutch. My problem is that the input shaft of my XT tranny is way smaller than the hole in the XT6 clutch disc. Also my shaft is 21 spline and the XT6 disc is 24 spline. Obviously this isn't going to work. I'm sure there's an answer, but I need you guys to tell me what it is. Can anybody shed any light on this? Thanks in advance. Jeff.
  10. Thanks Josh. I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and do the same grunt work that you and all the others have done. There's no easy way to get more horses is there? I WILL be careful, I don't want to screw it up after going this far.
  11. 45-50 hours huh? That's kinda what I'm trying to avoid. You didn't happen to keep the "pinout" for that did you? All I need is what it takes to run the motor. I'll use the existing wiring for everything else. I'm going to use the old fuel pump, alternator, and such. I just need the motor "pinout".
  12. So far, under a grand. I still need a few more things, but I have most of what I need. The only other big expense is going to be the exhaust system.
  13. The computer is from a '96 Legacy, and the motor is from a '97 Impreza. I wonder if the 1990 wiring would be significantly different? I wouldn't mind taking a look if you want to send it along. Thanks
  14. Hi everyone. I'm fairly new to the Board, but have had Sub's for a long time. Here it is. I'm putting an EJ22 in my 1985 XT. I have the conversion kit from Mudrat(excellent kit by the way, well worth the money, thanks John), and I got a CPU and harness from Lmdew (thanks to you too Larry). Now I need help with the wiring. BIG help! Does anyone have a wiring diagram, or any info' that would be useful in this endeavour? The mechanics are easy compared to the wiring conversion. Subarino, you look like you got a good handle on it, any advise? Anybody else? Please I need help from the experts! Thanks in advance for your help.
  15. It seems Subaru still hasn't got it right with the windshield sealing thing. Your's is a much newer vehicle, but I have an '85 XT that had the exact same problem. It needed to have the windshield resealed. That did it. Sorry I can't give you better news.
  16. Thanks, I was going to split the case as well, but thought I read somewhere that the pistons had to come out the top. Toybuilder's trick is kinda what I was originally looking for though. Thanks for putting me straight.
  17. I was just wondering. If I need to pull the piston out the top of the block, how do I do that when I can't grip anything?? I know someone out there has a real simple answer, I just can't think of one myself.
  18. Thanks, that's what I thought. It's nice to get confirmation from someone who knows.
  19. I want to replace my rear shocks, but am worried about not being able to re- compress the spring which will pop out when I remove the shock. Has anyone done this? Do I need special tools, or am I worried for nothing?
