No, that's the pilot bearing. The input shaft bearing is in the front of the transmission and supports the splined shaft that the clutch sits on. I don't know of any other names for it, but maybe there are.
So then you guy's are telling me that it's a tranny bearing ?
I am doing a single range to dual range swap,as soon as the rain stop's.
So this should fix the noise ?

Is the input shaft bearing known under another name ? Can't seem to find it in my repair manual. Do you know where it is exactly located ?
Thanks

EA81, bit of a rumble when clutch pedal released, quite noticable in the cab and while driving. Depressed pedal makes the noise go away.
Have searched here and numerous motor mechanical sites and have been told 50/50 GB/Clutch. and then I read that if the noise is there in neutral with clutch depressed, it's the clutch, and if the noise is there with the clutch pedal released, it's the trany.
What do you guy's/gal's think ? I'm sure someone here has experienced this.

Would the rear diff bind ? Just the same when you run an 84 Wagon in 4WD on tar ?

Get a new thermoswith for the radiator. I got mine for $10 in Aus so they should be cheap there !

Thanks guys, I look forward to some pics. I have reinstalled the original radio until I have more of an idea I how I should mount it. I've done alot of work on this car, and don't want to have a badly/ugly mounted radio. I might go out and find a spare console to experiment on !
you can email pics to quombone@gmail.com
Thanks

I have a couple of aftermarket radio/cassette players, I'm trying to install one to the wagon, but am having lots of probs. It seems too deep to fit. How do others here install aftermarket units ? Has anyone got a diagram/pic or suggestions on where it will fit ?
Many Thanks

What would be going bad here ? It's a whirling/rubbing kind of sound.
thanx

just to add what I did, I only used one stock jack on a concrete block (for height) under the tranny and the engine was supported by the engine hoist. Lift both until the engine clears the mounts, undo the 4 bolts etc that joints it to the tranny, slide forward (raditaor removed) lift it out. (disconect everything to the engine beforehand of course:))

If its an e81, you just have to carefully 'peel' it off, pulling out and upwards if i remember carefuly. You have to be careful not to kink it, or it wont go on again.
Yes, EA81, MY83 Wagon. I have a parts car here that I might experiment on first, but would prefer someone who has removed it sucessfully, or what tools/techniques they have tried !

HI,
Got a bit of rust in one of the roof gutters and the best way I think to fix it, is to remove the chrome trim.
Is there a method to this ? Have done a few searches with no results !
Cheers

Are these easy to replace ? What damage could I be doing now, without it ?
Thanks Miles

Hi, Just doing a front axle replacment on MY83Wagon. When I removed the CastleNut/Washer/ behind the Cone Washer I fine this tangled mess that looks like a 1mm spring, about 4in long and was probably round but now a mess.
What is it ? I have never seen one before.
Thanx

I don't know about the price, mine was on the EA81 when I brought it. Do a search on this forum for "electronic distributor" etc, there is heap's of info. And a point about tuning changes ?!

Bro
You can make an inline fuel return by going to a gas refiller e.g. BOC and buy a t peice, two 5/16 barbs and the smallest barb they have. Solder the end of the small one shut and drill it out with a 1mm hole. And youll need some hose camps aswell. I can take a photo if you need it just send me your email addy.
I thought the Weber had the T piece ? Please send me the pic
quombone@hotmail.com Thanks

I think the problem is that I'm in Australia and I have the Hitachi fuel in line but no feul out (as in your diagram)on two Hitachi carbs. Its an EA81 , no charcoal cannister ? Must of been removed ? Still stumped !
-
on the Hitachi's I can only see fuel line IN , no fuel OUT ?
Still stumped......total newbie here :-\

I have a Weber 32/36 with the return line deaded. And that it should be returned, but to WHERE ? I have read through umpteen posts and am yet to find an answer to were this fuel return line should go. Can someone supply a pic/a link/ or something to make me understand where this return line should go !
I asked my local SunSpares Subaru repairer and have heard people talk of using the Hitachi return that just screws in, I have 2 Hitachi's here and don't know what their talking about ???

EA82 turbos crack heads, other don't
Here is Aus, I know of 3 Suby yards that sell EA82 (non turbo) heads all day, every day for $150 a piece. So to say that only the Turbos crack heads, I have 3 yards here to say different.

EA81's are almost bullet proof and the EA82 (though more powerful) are known here as, head crackers :-p
