  1. well, turns out the head isn't stripped, I was tightening the plug and it was just spinin and spinnin so i thought it was stripped, but it's just a long plug so anyways, i thightened that up, i looked at the cap and rotor, it was ALL KINDSA mangled and messed up. so i replaced both cap and rotor, but none the less, it still does to sputter rpm jump thing. allot of you say it's slop in the dizzy bearing, never run into something like this, do i just order a new bearing, and how much are they ussually? i hope thats all it is, i have to admit though i have my doubts because it wont do it unless the rpms are high or under stress, if I drive down the road in lets say second gear when i get to about 3000-4000 rpm it will start jumpin and it misses slightly, if i shift to second on wet pavement and stomp it and spin the wheels at like 3-5000 rpm It won't jump at all, it's like it only does it when there is resistance, in neutral it don't do it, if u all still think it's the bearing plz post a note and i'll call around and see if i can't get one, anyone know where i could get one btw anyhoo, plz post back, Jesse
  2. Thanx everyone for the great input, I am going to start with the plugs since thats going to have to be done either way, if i do a helicoil do i have to remove the head in order to avoid metal shavings getting into the cylinder? also, do the head gaskets from an ea81 fit on the ea82? thanx again, Jesse P.S. the rpms ONLY jump up, never down.
  3. when i'm either going up hill or i'm over 3000 rpms the rpms needle does a sort of "surging" or "jumping" motion and it misses, it's an N/A ea82. If anyones got even a good guess, by all means post, I'm thinking i have a cracked head or blown gasket or somethin because it was over heated last summer several times, but then again, there is no smoke comming from the exhaust. The raidiator cap leaks very small spirts like every minute, I think this is from pressure build up, I do have the thermostat out because it stopped working. dunno if that has anything to do with it. Also, when i tightened the plugs on cylinders #1 and #3 they just kept threading, so the head is stripped, dunno if that has anything to do with the rpms jumping either, any ideas or help is greatly appreciated, thanx in advance, -Jesse (85glwagon)
  4. yep, that was it! all blinkers, hazard lights, and headlights working good and proper, i fixed the idle by installing new plugs, my car is finished! , big thanx to all who helped, couldn't have done it withoutcha.
  5. ok, i have figured it out! i pulled the whole front harness and inspected it, well, when i got the car a guy my mom is friends with gave it me, he said the crankers next door he let nab some hoses, well they didn't just nab hoses, the cut wires and belts and what not. I had spliced all the wires i noticed, looked for more cut but i didn't see any, after i pulled the harness i pulled back the plastic cover and i found the problem, near the firewall THEY CUT LIKE 10 WIRES!, i'm surprised ANYTHING worked, so i am going to splice them and i'll tell ya all if it solves it (i'm sure it will)
  6. ah, i see, no, i just went out and checked, all the running lights work, as well as tail lights, only thing not working right are the headlights and the blinkers won't even make the flasher unit go click click, tried replacing it but thats not it.
  7. replaced it, no effect. i have another parts car that i rolled, the same year and everything only the one i am fixing is a "sport" edition. i am very close to saying screw it and switching ALL the wiring.
  8. what do u mean by they usually go bad, how so? i have an ohms meter btw.
  9. lol, tell me about it, i just replaced the damn thing just to find out that wasn't the problem
  10. 1) the blinkers won't work, i tried replacing the flasher unit and the switch on the steering column, niether worked. any suggestions? and 2) the headlights are working but very oddly, when on low beams the outter lights are bright and the inner are very dim, so dim they are orangish in color, just picture a flashlight going dead, thats what the inner lights are like when on low beams, and when on high beams BOTH passenger side lights are bright and the drivers side lights are dim, i just don't get it. Ive checked the wires and as far as i can see there are no loose grounds or anything of the sort, ANY help is MUCH appreciated as i HATE electric problems because i can never figure them out. thanx in advance, -85glwagon
  11. Have you checked the timing adjustment on the dizzy, mabee the bounce moved it?
  12. ok, that was part of the problem but i also had the timming off 180 so i had it at TDC on the wrong cyllinder. the valves were partially open i think when i adjusted em last.
  13. I was wundering if it is possible to take the engine (ea82) and tranny out of an 85 gl wagon and put it in an 88 gl hatchback that had an ea81 engine. anyone done this?
  14. Hi, I have a 1988 subaru gl hatchback, It has the ea81 motor with the ea82 intake manifold and a webber carb. I had to pull the distributor to get the manifold on, I forgot to mark it (completly slipped my mind) and now i can't for the life of me get the timming right. OR i have the timming right and somthing else is wrong. either way I have the ecm visable and i didn't connect anything, i just simply turned the key to the on position and it gives me code 13, anyone know what this means?
