  1. Started putting the dash back together and double checked the fan midway~Worked for about 3 seconds then off again!! :banghead:I'm guessing some type of short to make the new relay work and then cut out. I'll keep you posted.
  2. Oh~ and thanks to GLoyale for the help. Getting a handle on the correct diagnosis was tough but you helped me through it.Thank you!!
  3. Ok~ended up doing trial and error on the Blower Motor relay location in an 86 Brat. I removed every relay behind the fuse box in the Brat one at a time to see what was affected. Results: found the relay for the headlights , (2 relays for that) the turn signals, the seatbelt warning lights, the intermittant wipers. And found no other relays there. So I went back under the hood & looked back where I started. I had one good/new square type relay that I switched out for the 3 available one at a time. The photos show what ended up being the relay for the blower motor~ it's a regular square type, actually pretty easy to find at a parts store. The fan works at all speeds now.First time in over two months~ I'm so happy!!
  4. I'm basing the part number off of a site that sells the relay (or, so they say), Dave's discount auto parts. The two relays part #056700-4810 & part #056700-5260 look identical, they are the same round type. Just the inked part number on the side is different. Here's the link for the part: http://www.davesdiscountautoparts.com/ShopByVehicle.epc?q=1986-SUBARU-Brat-H4--1781cc--1.8l--2--Bbl--Vin--Ea81&yearid=1986%40%401986&makeid=78%40%40SUBARU%40%40B&modelid=6367%40%40BRAT&engineid=7521%40%40H4-1781cc%201.8L%202%20BBL%20Vin%20EA81%40%407521&catid=6@@Heating/AC&subcatid=94@@AC%20Relays%20and%20Switches&mode=PA Don't know if the part number is correct for sure, but in my online searching, this comes the closest to what the relay should look like. (as far as I know) Also, I found the 20A fuse and the White wire. I'll trace it and see if I can find another round type relay nearby. Haven't seen it yet though. Thanks again!~
  5. Helps a lot~thanks . I do feel like I'm getting somewhere, even if it is by process of elimination. Before reading your reply, went to parts store and they had the square type (one labelled AC Main relay) in stock. Swapped them out but no change. There are only two other relays nearby, which I double checked~when I remove & reinstall the Headlights are affected, which as it turns out is in keeping with the photo I'd shown earlier. So I still haven't located the blower fan relay, I just know which ones it isn't. I believe the Relay I need is Part#056700-4810. The ones I pulled for the headlights is part #056700-5260. So I'm still in search of for the blower motor relay location. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again~
  6. For diagnosis: No fan speeds for Blower motor at all~ so from what I hear probably not the resistor. Also, the Blower motor stopped working all at once, no intermittent failure~ if it were the switch wouldn't it be likely to fail some and work other times? I'm thinking it's the Blower Motor Relay~ Haven't taken a meter to anything yet~(need to purchase one). 2 quick questions before I proceed: In the photo of the relay comparison~ Based on location (just above the fuse box) and appearance, I think I've found the Blower motor relay for my Brat. Problem is, the other Relay in the photo is in a Loyale. Can anyone confirm I've got the right Relay Location for an 86 Brat? Manual I have doesn't show it at all~ 2nd question: From the second graphic from another Subaru Repair manual (again a Loyale) it shows another relay under the hood (?) Is this a possible cause as well, and can anyone confirm which exact Relay it is? Not having direction that is "Brat Specific" has been frustrating. I've got the dash all apart already & am not putting it back together until I get the fan running again Please let me know~am I getting close? Thanks in advance~ BRATMOBILE
  7. Thanks for the Input~ I thought that I had read that the 86' Brat didn't come with Jumpseats. Just wanted to confirm that they'd still work before shopping for them. Thanks again!~
  8. There's a set of Brat Rear Jump seats for sale on ebay. I'm in need of a pair for my 86'. But the post on ebay says the seats they're selling are compatible for 78' through 85', and that their not compatible with an 86' Brat. Is this true, or can I add/modify something to make them work? bidding ends in about 3 1/2 hours!~ Thanks in advance.
  9. Charcoal.....Hmmmmm. Maybe I'll use it for my fish tank.
  10. I've had a bunch of vacuum leaks recently fixed, and was wondering ( maybe a stupid question) what's the part I've got circled in the photo?
  11. Hello TOSborn, Been desperately trying to solve what seems to be an identical problem in my 86 Brat. I ordered a Replacement Blower motor relay, and when it came in it was the larger rectangular type you mentioned . Could not find the match for that part anywhere on the vehicle~Took it to a garage and the mechanic had the same luck I did. Ordered the part, and the large rectangular one came in.So I'm not really certain of the relay location or the correct replacement part at this point. Any advice you might have would be greatly appreciated.Below is the post regarding a possible replacement relay I came across. You can review my earlier post on this to see where I've started from. Thanks!~ OK~ So no real progress to speak of for the AC/Blower motor issue. Life's been too busy. Found a part that might be the relay I need. Here's the link: http://www.davesdisc...witches&mode=PA Any opinions on this? Thanks in advance~ Bratmobile

  13. Mechanic recently looked at my Brat & recommended a Carburetor rebuild or replacement. The attached image from an ebay page shows a re manufactured carburetor that is saying it will fit an 86 Brat GL. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks in advance~ Bratmobile
  14. If I figure it out I'll be sure to post it~no AC in the summer. I'm guessing other Brat owners would like to know as well.I'll keep you posted. Thanks again.
  15. No speeds at all on the fan, even high/4th position. I'll try digging in the dash to see what I can find. Hoping the solution is that simple. Might be a pain to get to, but less $ on parts. Thanks for the advice~ Also, from what I understand there is a fan resistor & a fan relay. Is the relay a possible cause? if it is, then do you know the relay location? You can view the photos I took from the 1st post. Thanks in advance. bratman2....fights crime & still finds time to help work on the Bratmobile~
  16. AC HELP!! 1st post~ Purchased 86 Brat 1 month ago, loving it, but have a problem that came up a couple days ago~ AC/Heater fan quit working, no speeds work, and no warning signs beforehand. Research thus far showing most likely candidates are the fan relay and and a resistor. Would you agree? Although the location of the relay is unclear ~either under the dash mounted right near the blower motor, or under the hood near the ignition coil (?) Purchased a new relay, but it doesn't match any of the parts in either of these areas. Attaching a few photos to show where I've been looking. I think the parts store may have given me the wrong relay. Please take a look at the photos and let me know if I'm on track at all (!?) Much thanks in advance~ Bratmobile
