  1. If you were asking me, the front section worked pretty well. Not perfectly, but good enough. The back part is for a brat and only for a brat. So, I have an extra brat rear section of carpet if anyone wants it...
  2. No charcoal canister. I was thinking about hooking it up to give it a try, but I also might just delete the whole breather system and route it right out the back of the car...
  3. Oh, and it almost always starts right up. Sometimes it's a little bit slower than others, but it never seems like it's having real problems starting.
  4. Thanks for the reply Subarutex. I am running fuel injection. I think you are probably right, but I'm wondering why I only have the problems when the fuel tank is full, and why when I disconnect the breather lines, the problem seems to go away. It seems like some sort of pressure issue, so a surge tank set up would probably remedy in that there would be a way to buffer some of those pressure changes. So in you new set up, do you have the lift/low pressure pump always on? What are you using for the surge tank?
  5. Thanks Leeroy. I think this is the separator you speak of. There is one of these in either side of the wagon. The car was running fine before I hooked these up, but did smell like gas pretty bad on warmer days!

  8. Anyone know this part? It sits in the back of the body in the wagon, passenger side, behind the plastic. Part of the fuel breather line.   11. So I recently got all the fuel breather lines hooked up in the back of that wagon. They were old and shrunken and pulled away from the attachments to whatever valves or filters or whatever they are that are inside the body in the rear of the wagon, behind the plastic - so I attached some new bits of tubing with barbed fittings to make up the distance. Now, when I fill the fuel tank, the car will drive normally for a few minutes and then falter randomly and unpredictably. It will just cut power and then kick back in making for a herky jerky ride. When it is in this mode, the idle also fluctuates regularly between about 600 and 1200 RPM. This slowly decreases in frequency and violence as the tank empties until around 1/2 to 3/4 tank, it disappears entirely. I disconnected the fuel breather and have driven a little bit and the problem seems to stop, BUT then it smells like gas in the car. Does this sounds like I simply need larger fuel lines for the breather? Am I right in calling this a breather line? The lines also are hard to track in their routes through the car. Does anyone have a diagram? Could it simply be 1 or all of the valves (or whatever they are) that the lines run through?

  16. Thanks Scooner! It is fun. Still a few kinks I'm working on, and I moved to Denver.... Anyways, here's a few pics. I think I posted this one already. Here's a few newer ones...I should take some more when I get a chance. Also, update the build thread..... It's real fun to drive in the snow with the little studded snows... Though the handbrake is front wheel, the power to weight ratio makes it a pretty good little drifter.
  17. So I updated on another thread, but what I ended up doing was swapping the speedo in from an 80's GL which has the VSS built in. It needed some custom fitting, and the black plate that attaches to the front of the speedo unit itself on the first gens wouldn't fit, so it's kinda open which looks unfinished but I think kinda cool, especially after I take off the plates on the temp and fuel gauges. Phizinza : With the 1990, OBDI, the VSS is hardly needed, at least it seems like this is usually the case. Either way, it would not be as sensitive to accuracy as the OBDII's johnceggleston: The 4000ppm is correct, but the issue here is that it is a first gen car with no VSS, and the trans is the 5spD/R when they used the speedo VSSs. In the OBDIIs at least, the VSS was an electronic unit plugged into the tranny where, on the 80s models the speedo cable connects. Anyways, car is running pretty great with the new speedo. Now I just need to figure out why it's always smelling like gasoline after warm up....

  19. Man that thing is 300 bucks! Also, it requires an electronic output from the tranny, which I don't have. It seems like the best way to do this is to use the speedo cable inline style thing (like the Brantz BR4), which is pretty much plug and play, but I haven't been able to find one that fits into the subaru tranny (I think it's a M20x1.5 thread?). What is the 3 way speedo cable tee ivans imports mentioned above?
  21. I dropped the magnet count to 1 per rotation and bought an ultragauge which shows me RPMs and MPH read from the VSS signal. The engine runs pretty normal with 1 magenet, though it drops to about 650 RPM after stopping or dropping from higher RPM suddenly. It never died, but wasn't perfect. The UltraGauge is reading pretty close to correct MPH, a bit slower, making me think that the 1.28 readings per rotation was fairly close to correct (though obviously unattainable). So basically, it would probably do better on an axle. ALSO, this made me realize that the '78 speedo is not perfectly compatible with the '89 D/R tranny, reading quite a bit faster than IRL. That's mostly annoying because the odometer than is not correct either.... AND, today this happened and I don't know why. So I'm back to square one!
  22. Front seats for a first gen. I really just need the driver's side in blue. This is the passenger. I'm thinking this is going to be very hard to find, so I'm also looking for seat covers. The ones on it are pretty torn up on the front seats, but the rear is OK. I'd love to match them but that also seems real unlikely. Any lines on slip covers?
