  1. Ecology on 27th ave. and Buckeye seems to always have a few Soobs laying around. First time I found pug wheels there though. You're in Iraq? Be careful man, thanks for your service.
  2. I was at Ecology in Phoenix earlier this week and there was a peugot with 14" steel wheels, and a Turbo 4x4 with complete rear discs. No idea if they're still there but I thought I'd pass the word. Oh yeah there was a nice clean 4x4 hatch there too. Travis
  3. Is there room around the diff for bigger lo range gears? I would love a deeper low range.
  4. Thanks for the info. I NEED tires bad so I'll probably trim to fit. My car is pretty beat up anyway. Does anyone have any pic to share? Most of the lifted soobs I've seen have been the early ones. Thanks Travis
  5. I know this has been covered before but searching didn't yield any clear answers. I have an '88 GL Wagon and a set of 14" pugs. I'm planning on getting some 27x8.5x14 Kuhmos, but I don't know if they'll fit stock. I'm not shy of a bit of trimming but I'd rather not lift it, at least right away. If anyone has some pics of a stocker with bigger tires I'd love to see them. Thanks Travis
  6. Awesome thanks for the info. I'll take a chance and put the new motor up to the old tranny.
  7. FYI looks like a EA82 clutch is 200mm and a EJ22 is 225mm. Centerforce make a dual friction for both applications. However it appears that the splines are different too. 24x1" for the EJ22 and 21x7/8" for the EA82. I'll have to do more research to confirm this. Travis
  8. I too am curious about what the D/R trannies can hold up to. But having looked at the options today it seems the easiest solution would be to make an adapter and modify the EA82 flywheel like the rallyjusty fellow did. A good aftermarket clutch i.e; Centerforce should be able to handle the power of a N/A motor no problem. However if you decided to go turbo grafting on the entire bellhousing to run the larger clutch seems like a good idea. I'm not too concerned about blowing up the tranny, I don't do many power drops and they are plentiful in junkyard. I could always go AWD if I blow up too many. I'd love to hear from those with expirence though. I'm going to make some calls this week and see what I can find for a donor motor/car. A tweaked EJ22T would be sweet:banana:. I could see my wagon with 4 ATC paddles carving bowls at the dunes:cool:. That'd be worth the effort.
  9. FYI there are gearsets for the Sami cases down to 6 to 1 and I heard rumors of ever deeper ones being tested. This is probably overkill but the high range gearing is lowered as well. Great for compensating for bigger tires and lousy R&P gearing. Travis
  10. Here's what a sami looks like. I think you got them down in OZ but they're different from a rocky. Travis
  11. Thank you, thank you, thank you, that's exactly what I wanted. I searched but I didn't go back far enough. This swap looks pretty damn easy and everyone raves about the reliability of the 2.2l. I need to put together a price list and see if rebuilding the roo makes sense.
  12. My car's dead right now but when I last drove it it was making a horrible growling sound when decelerating. Accelerating or steady pace was fine but if I let off the gas or downshifted it would growl. I know my front CVs are a little dry so I'm hoping that's the problem. I checked the tranny fluid and it looks good with no visable metal floating around. Has anyone ever had this problem before? I'm thinking about rebuilding my car and don't want to get a new tranny too. It's an 88 dual range wagon BTW. Thanks Travis
  13. Do these adapters exist or would it be one-off? Do you have any pics of the welded bellhousing? How has the EA82 tranny handled the added power? I'd really like to keep my dual range tranny if possible. Any exhaust issues or is the same basic idea on the 2.2? Thanks for the info I've been researching all day and it looks like a good plan so far. Travis
  14. I'm currently thinking of rebuilding my dead Subaru but I really don't want to spend the money and time to swap in another EA82 and have barely adequate power. I've thought about the EA82T but the lack of cheap turbo parts cars around Phoenix would make that an expensive proposition. Plus I'd be stuck with either a high mileage junkyard unit or a $$$ Jap motor. I was wondering if anyone has ever swapped in a newer 2.2L instead. I'm pretty sure I can get a low mileage 2.2 for less then a Jap motor, and 130hp sounds about right for pushing bigger tires and camping gear up mountains. So I've done engine swaps before and I'm familiar with all the little issues that come up I'm just worried about the big ones. Will the 2.2 physically fit into the engine bay? Will the 2.2 physically bolt up to my dual range tranny? Are there any issues that make this swap impossible or impractical? Does anyone know about the interchangablitity of the clutches and accessories? I'd appreciate any help on the subject. Thanks Travis
  15. Has anyone ever expiremented with a Samurai t case? They can be geared nutty low and way strong for their size.
  16. Sounds interesting. Get your spare parts collection and we'll head out to Florence. I'll take my truck:D. I know a few rock trails you can cut your teeth on. Upper Woodpecker and Lower Ajax should be doable with your setup. It's a short haul from my house so I'd love to take a day and watch a Roo on the rocks. Oh yeah Jeeps suck. There a much cheaper ways to build a crawler. I wish I would have learned that lesson sooner. I had 6 Jeeps before I figured it out. Just Everyone Elses Parts Travis
  17. \ I got a full blown rockcrawler so the Soob is just the camping mobile. I've wheeled it a little and it does quite well but rocks are definately not it's strong point, I also got it stuck in the mud 15 feet from the road but I won't go into details:-\. I do love the fact that I can load it to the gills with camping gear, the dogs, the Mrs. and head to wherever I want to camp getting 20+mpg. I also drive it 100 miles a day with exceptional reliability. Anyway the plan is to find some 14" pugs, get some 26" SSTs, a little lift if needed, a rear locker ( I have a few ideas I'm working on),some custom bumpers, intake and exhaust. As for wheeling it I do plan on a snow run when she's all squared away. I'm actually really looking forward to hitting the snow in her. When she's all done I might do a bit of wheeling but really if I have to choose between wheelin' the Soob or my cralwer I'm taking the truck out. Lockers, swampers, and 168:1 is hard to beat for wheeling fun. I'll post up if I go hit the snow. So Yuma eh, have you hit the dunes yet? How'd the roo do? I've been really contemplating heading down to Glamis in the Soob but I didn't want to drive all that way to have the car suck. Travis Edit: I live 1/2 an hour from Florence so shoot me an email when you head up.
  18. Can anyone tell me what wire plugs into the big sender on the bottom of the oil pump on an EA82 with the gauge? The wire coming off the sender is black/yellow and I thought there was a wire that came out of the loom under the radiator for it to plug into but now I can't find it. If someone can tell me what color the wire is and where it goes I'd be very thankful. Thanks Travis
  19. The car is an '88 GL Wagon dual range EA82 single port throttle body. Don't know what other info you want to know. It's a stock and boring station wagon. It had a mechanical fan off the water pump and a electric fan on the pass side. I replaced the rad a few months ago and it had no cooling issues until the fan blade created a 2" x 5" hole in the rad. The electric fan is now wired to run all the time and it's ok but I know it won't handle a 120 degree phoenix summer in its current form. I'm thinking of heading to the boneyard tomorrow to look for a fan and other goodies. I was hoping someone already did the legwork for me.
  20. I don't have a dyno but my butt tells me the car runs a lot better and has more power. I'll be able to comment on the MPG in a few days. I was able to pass people heading north on the I-17 last weekend loaded for camping. Before loaded up heading north I'd be doing 65 foot to the floor. Definately a difference. Took some of the sting off of needing a new rad.
  21. A few weeks ago my soob chucked one of the blades off the engine driven fan through my 3 month old radiator:madder:. I bent the damaged rows over and removed the fan to hold me over until I can afford a new rad and WOW!, there is a huge power difference. I always heard there was a 10-15 hp loss with an engine driven fan but now I believe it. The car runs much better and can pull hills in 5th no problem. It's actually got me excited about building the car again. So anyway the electric fan and damaged rad are doing an acceptable job of cooling the car now in the winter but I'll definately need to do something by summer. Does anyone know of a junkyard fan that'll be close to bolting on the a suby rad replacing both stock fans? I was thinking 2 stock electric but the 2nd fan wouldn't clear the water pump pulley. Any ideas before I go custom? The car in question is an '88 GL Wagon. Thanks Travis
  22. Can someone direct me to a write up on how to reseal the pump? I have horrible lifter noise in my EA82, if it's only a 10 minute job I'll do it right now. Thanks Travis
