  1. Great. thank you for the info General! This one I believe has a 4 speed transmission.
  2. Hello everyone. I am seriously considering buying a 1996 Legacy wagon in my area. The one I am looking at appears to be in outstanding condition and has 166000 miles. I have heard that the 2.2 liter engines are very reliable. however its an automatic transmission and I Have never had an older Subaru with an automatic transmission could anyone tell me what they think about the automatic transmission that would be in a 1996 Legacy?
  3. well I couldn't remove the key so I ended up salvaging a lock cylinder from the scrap yard and then payed a locksmith to key it to my car now I am up and running again! thank you everyone for all the advice!
  4. well I made a hook with a peace of 1mm steel wire... that didn't work at all so then I went ahead and removed the lock cylinder and still couldn't get the key out. so at this point I think my next move will be to go to the scrap yard and pull a lock cylinder off another loyale then pay a locksmith to make a key for it and then finally install it onto my car. hopefully that will work.
  5. I'm not sure how to remove the lock cylinder. but I will definitely try using some kind of a pick or thin wire and a magnet and see if I can finagle it out. it broke about halfway down on the key so I'm sure it will be a real challenge! thank you for the suggestions
  6. I went to start my 1993 loyale 5 speed wagon and the key snapped right off in the ignition! thank God it was in front of my house. None the less this is a shame and I need to be able to start my car. If anyone can give me advise on how to get this broken key out I would really appreciate it, (I have a spare key, so if I could get the old one out I would be in good shape.)
  7. well thank you all for the help. I was able to change the seal! It was a pain, even with slightly raising the engine I was barley able to reach the back row of bolts. and the only tool I could reach them with was a Philips screw driver!
  8. sorry for the double post my computer keeps doing that
  9. I just pulled off my oil pan on my Loyale so that I can put a new gasket in. there is no way I am going to be able to put it back in without lifting the engine a bit! could someone please tell me where the mounts are located and how many bolts I will need to take out?

  11. I have the exact same problem with my Loyale. is there anyway that GD or Dave T could dumb this down? how would you go about adding a relay and what would it do?
  12. I did try spraying it and it didn't seem to make any difference.
  13. okay so the power steering fluid is full and there are no bubbles in it. here is a video so you can hear the ridiculous sound that it is making I had my brother turn the wheel from left to right, so when the noise gets louder is when the wheel is being turned. the link at the top of this post is to the video, if anyone can watch it and shed some light on what might be wrong with the pump I would really appreciate it!
  14. thank you all this gives me a lot to check out. I will report back!
  15. I've bought a new one before at Oreilly's for around 5 bucks
  16. thanks StephenJ my engine might very well be leaking oil from the heads as well it kind of looks like it is on the bottom of the motor... but I'm pretty sure I'm losing much more oil from the pan. I can literally see parts of the cork seal falling off lol and I would like to pull the motor and do a full reseal but I'm not sure I have enough experience working on these cars for that I hope the rebuild goes well for you!
  17. well it kind of screams right when you start up the car, but its mostly squealing that gets louder with the rpms
  18. thanks "Naked Buell" I'm going to look into that sealant
  19. the fluid lvl is good is a bearing something that could be replaced or would i need a new pump?
  20. the power steering pump on my dads 2008 legacy sedan is making a bad squealing noise that increases with the rpms. also when you first start it up and turn the wheel it kind of jotly could the pump be going bad and if so how extensive of a procedure would it be to replace it. I've worked on my loyale, but I have a strong mechanical background.
  21. yeah I would like to take out the engine and do a full reseal but I do not have enough experience to try that on my only car. I will try slightly lifting the engine. thanks
  22. I had the same problem with the grinding noise. after I replace the CV axle it was still making the noise... it turned out it was the bearings. I had hit a pot hole so hard that it ruined both. And like other people are saying when you replace one side its good to just go ahead and replace the other as well
  23. my 1993 Loyale is leaking oil very badly from the oil pan seal! I have a new seal but I have no idea how to get to all the bolts that hold it in place. dose anyone have experience with this that could give me some ideas.
