  3. mine's a '79..he gave me tbe original ea71..but not sure its health..no transmission..so hoping the ea81 and 4 speed out of my 84 might work! thanks guys!
  4. got a gen 1 brat with NO drivetrain and engine has been sitting in rain..sooo wondering best options..i have a 1984 gl wagon with ea81 and 4 speed thats getting the ej22 motor swap soon..soooo..any experts here know if it's an ok option? or should i just rebuild the ea71 and track down a tranny? thanks all! pardon my excitement..im searching and googling and learning as i go!

I've searched here but nothing conclusive..pardon my newb status..im TRYING! i appreciate ALL the help and advice..gonna be a LONG build but worth it! VERY excited to FINALLY be part of the gen 1 owners!
  6. hello all! some on here may be familiar with the brat i just got..it was a long time build by the prior owner..he did an awesome job on it..and unfortunately had to let go of her..i promised him I'd take care and finish the build! i WILL..but my first step is to get it back to stock stance. anyone be willing to let me know what i need to track down to do this? im no good with suspension..i read the front struts on gen 1's are rare..any other options? rear he said he put chevy luv parts on.im not sure..im hoping rear i just need shocks..i apologize..its SO lowww i cant get under it yet..i have a broken leg holding me back..unfortunately..just trying to get the experts advice as i research further..i thank everyone in advance and WILL post pics as i go! thanks!!
  7. Thanks Moosens! Good advice..I definitely will be looking for all the old parts I can get lucky enough to stumble across..getting tougher than I thought! I got lucky on this gem..my coworker happened to know a guy who had it just gathering dust on his property! It was a few days away from gettin crushed.. I'm not sure whether I should pull the ea81 and tear it down for rebuild..OR do this EJ22 swap..but we will see..I'm in no hurry..Thanks again and looking forward to learning as I go! Love these old soobys
  8. hello all fellow classic Sooby admirers and owners! I've been searching/lurking for an old Subaru for years..grew up driving tons of these as a kid..ALWAYS loved em..i had NO clue how hard they would be to find nowadays..wow..but glad to be back..looking forward to gathering more info and maybe find what parts on these are hard to find/etc..thanks all! glad to be on board! i JUST rescued a 1984 gl 4x4 from the wreckers in Oregon today!! 14 hours of driving later..even has clean title..wow. motor's "blown" the guy said..oh well..
