Thanks for the replies. I understand that 60k is very early for the belts and water pump but as I said we're not near a reputable shop but once a year, if that. That being the case I would much rather be early than late, I'm not rich by any means but I prefer safe to sorry. As far as plugs go, the mtnce schedule reccomends 30k replacements. I'm planning on OEM plugs, anyone having better luck with something else?

Just going over mtnce records for the gfs 06 and it has never has the plugs changed. 60k on it and runs great but obviously need to get this done. Over Thanksgiving we're going to be in Denver and will have the timing belts and water pump changed. I know this is early but we don't get close to a good shop very often. I'll have the plugs done as well. Just OEM Suby plugs? Anything to watch out for? Thanks, Matt.

06 Forrester 2.5 with 51k. Runs perfect, absolutely no problems. Want to start thinking about having the Tbelts and water pump changed down the road. What would be a ballpark figure to set aside for this? Not something I can do myself. Thanks, Matt. BTW tried a search sorry if this has been beat to death.

Buddy of mine's wife's obw had a cv going out. They took it to a transmission shop to have it replaced. Shop called the next day said the couln't get the axle out of the hub, they had been working on it for four hours. They put it in a press, that didn't work, now they think they may have buggered the splines. What's the problem?

The gf's 06 frstr has 45k on it and has had regular oil changes, and tires. Last oil change the guys confused it with another car and flushed the ATF, we didn't pay for it. That's all thats been done. What's due? Timing belts? Head gaskets? Rear diff? Anything else to schedule in the next few months? Thanks, Matt.

Just got a 98 obw 2.5 5spd. Car is in pretty good condition, body is straight, interior clean runs and drives well. Has new timing belts and water pump. Have owned a ton of old gl/ loyales, this is my first ej. What can I do mtnce wise to keep this car on the road? Other than typical mtnce/ fluids etc what should I be paying attn to? What, if any basic mods are going to get the best bang for buck performance, mpg, reliability wise? Thanks, Matt.

Looking at a 93 impreza wagon awd mt with 193k on it. Body and interior clean claims to run and drive well. Says that it has a 1.8, is this right? Which 1.8 would it be? Not the EA82, maybe a 2.2? What to watch out for on these? I've owned a ton of gl/ loyales, never an impreza. Any info appreciated, Matt.

Where to source rebuilt engine
mattri replied to mattri's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks for the replies. I've been looking for an older subie wagon for a while. My first subie was an 84, I've owned an 82 and an 83, as well as prob a dozen gl/ loyale's. They're getting harder to find and the ones you do see have questionable motors or no motor at all. For the time/labor involved if I could find a clean old wagon/ hatch I'd just as soon get a crate motor and drop it in. -
Where is a good, reputable place to get a rebuilt EA81 or EA82 longblock? I've seen CCR's site they look promising, good package, decent price. Anywhere else?

87 loyale won't rev above idle

Yeah it's carbed. I thought they'd gone EFI by 87, 86 being the transition year. It was a car I was interested in but turned out to be an auto so no matter. Thanks to those that replied, Matt.
