  1. These first gen legacy’s are hard to come by where I live. So finding another one for parts is kind of out of the question but I do have access to several 95-99 legacy’s so I guess what I’m really asking is with a rear subframe out of say a 95 work? Thanks again everyone for the input.
  2. Hello all, recently picked up a rhd 94 legacy wagon on the cheap but rear subframe is completely rotted out. So my question is what all years makes and model subframe will be a direct fit or at least will work for my car? Thanks in advance!
  3. Diff was low but not dry. Only thing that really bothered me was the wobbling crank pulley.
  4. Well I went and looked at the car this evening. Seemed to idle alright, no cel which I thought was odd because they already cut the cat off. When the key is turned on engine off the cel comes up on dash but goes away when engine is started. I'd say rear separator plate is leaking, went for a test drive and got back and smoke just pouring out from under hood oil all over y pipe. Also engine oil was overfull. Looked to be a quart or so. There was a new filter on it so maybe they added too much? And crank pulley was wobbling. I've never had one that the crank pulley wobbled on. So what's the fix for that? New pulley? New woodruff key? anyway that could of ruined the crankshaft? Other than those issues trans slipped a little, it felt way under powered. Could it just be a few teeth out of time? Wobbling pulley cause it to jump time?
  5. Yes I am in the rust belt but believe it or not the outback is pretty clean underneath. Only been in weeds for past month or so I got it cheap and pulled the ej22 and put in my other outback that the ej25 hg went on. I have all the space and tools and well pretty much anything I'd need, except maybe time lol thanks again for all the helpful information I'm digging the idea of a Impreza sitting at outback height. And I've always heard ej18 are great motors. Reason car is so cheap is owner now has put a lot of money and parts in it trying to cure a loss of power problem. Says he notices it going up hills. Almost sounds to me like a clogged cat (have any suggestions?), but for no more than what I'll have in it I could part it out and still come out on top. I have all intentions of figuring out what's going on and driving it for a while before I make my mind up on the swap.
  6. Thanks for the info. I figured a lot of it would bolt up but wasn't for sure. Also Impreza is auto and Outback it 5 speed. Is there already knockouts there for clutch pedal? And is this gonna be more of a pain than it's worth in your opinion?
  7. Just curious if I could use parts out of a 96 Legacy Outback in a 95 Impreza to convert it to awd. Only reason asking I can pick up a clean Impreza for next to nothing and I already have the Legacy sitting in the weeds at the house. Thanks in advance
  8. Hopefully I can get it off with no problem and then I'll just make a blank plate like DaveT did.
  9. Yes that's exactly what I want to do. So swap intakes and disty and I should be good to go? I was reading something someone said about welding up two ports or something like that. That's when I got confused and figured I better ask you guys on here.
  10. Will I have to use the distributor out of the spfi car? I think I remember reading that somewhere.
  11. Hello I have a 94 loyale with 270k on the clock. She is wore out and just lost compression on cylinders 1 and 3. Nows where I get to the point. I also have an 86 I bought for the d/r trans, it only has 75k on it but it's carb'd. So my question is can I take the intake off of my spfi and bolt it to the carb'd? Is there anything else I would have to change? I looked them over a bit and it looks like it will bolt right up but before I go pulling motors I'm sure there's Someone on here that can shed a little light on the situation. Any info or advice would be much appreciated
  12. I just plugged them. I wasn't really sure what to do with them either. I'm also experiencing a really low idle. Like 2-300rpm before I swapped it it idles around 6-700 rpm. Not really sure where that came from. I looked all over for a vaccum line or something I may have knocked off but couldnt find anything.
  13. After I switched transmissions I got a code 51. Neutral switch continuously in the on position? Anyone think of anything I could of missed
  14. Thanks everyone! Just got it all buttoned up. Took me about 4 hours. I didn't have to splice in to any wires, I was able to unplug them further back and then the dual range harness plugged right in. Reverse lights work and 4wd indicator comes on the dash. All I need is some new manifold gaskets, tried putting back togeather with the old ones leaked pretty bad. Can't wait to take it out and play around a little!
  15. Ok so I recently bought a parts car (86 gl wagon) with a dual range transmission I plan on putting in my 94 loyale. From what I've read so far it's pretty much a straight bolt up? Do I need to use the rear diff out of the gl? Or are the rear diff gear ratios the same? I know I might have to splice on to the wiring harness. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
  16. I didn't find any loose or stripped bolts. Id say the belts were pretty old tgough. My guess would be they've stretched and jumped a tooth or two on me.
  17. Sorry Dee2 I always forget to mention all that good stuff 94 loyale 4wd push button 250k ish miles New Plugs Wires Disty cap Rotor button Air filter Oil change O2 sensor Cts Fuel pump Fuel filter I'm sure there's something else I'm forgetting about Haven't bought fuel anywhere different, and all those new parts listed above have been replaced in the last month or so
  18. So today I was messing around and decide to rotate my distributor. Rotated it left and idle got worse. Rotated right and idle smoothed out, tightend the two disty bolts back up and hopped in the car and took it for a test drive. Ran really well actually. Had all the power back I was lacking before. So this tells me my timing belts have jumped a tooth maybe?
  19. So I loosened up studs and dropped exhaust down a little. Didn't make any difference to the way it ran. If anything it was worse. Still falls right on its face when I let off the clutch and try to take off
