  1. i definatally know what you mean on the frustration part, after almostly completely resealing the motor on mine i still manage to have an oil leak somewheres that keeps pissing oil all over the y-pipe, but after having the motor out so many times for 1 reason or another im just plain tired of pulling it out. and here recently it has started to develop a knock in the motor and the whole front end makes a knocking noise when i take off from a stop. ive had fords that were less trouble than this car, and i hate fords!!!!but would rather own 1 with the luck im having with this thing. ive now gotten to the point that im just beating it into the ground till she dies since im so tired of working on it.i have been wanting another soob for 8 years now and after this 1 i garuntee(sp) that i wont own another 1 again.

on your part though if you really love your soob just be a lot more patient and it will come together eventually.and for my helper on stuff i make the wife come help me out, wether she wants to get dirty or not she is gonna help out with stuff if i need another pair of hands.

  2. well after listening to my sooby sounding horrible for about a month, i finally decided to get around to fixing it. what had happened is i had managed to strip out 1 bolt hole on each side. well the other day i dug into my coffee can of bolts from when i had stripped my 87 and found 2 brass looking bolts with a double washer setup on them and a slightly tapered end. (im not possative but i think they were from the rear tow hooks) anyways they threaded right into the holes and snugged up real nicely and stopped the exhaust leak completely. i gotta take off my tow hooks tomorow to bolt up my trailer hitch, so ill check out the bolts and see if that was where those bolts were from.

  3. it will make it work running that power wire to it and what i mean about grounding it out is to take off the plugin from the harness and hook the wires directly to the comp itself, i dont know what the voltage requirement is for it but have never ran into a problem with it run that way before. basically putting in a toggle switch makes that toggle switch your ac button. howevev it is basically like having your ac set on max ac though. this setup will work for a backup setup for you for now but as the other guys said later on i would get another switch just so you have everything working back to normal. i have had 3 or 4 different cars wired up this way since i was too cheap to buy another relay or try to track down the real root of the problem

  4. if you want to see if that is the problem or see if the ac clutch is even engageing just run a wire from the battery to the posative connection at the top of the ac and ground out the other connection and watch and see if the ac clutch engages, if it does have someone get in the car while your holding the wires and see if it will blow out cold. if it does you can just run a toggle switch into the car and flick it on whenever you want t use the ac. i have done this with a cpl cars in the past with no problems

  5. well for me personally i dont bother with guns for either thing, over all if you want something in the car then whatever, but for where i live now you gotta go across 3 acres just to get near them, now if i catch someone on my property while my wife and kids are home they better have a damn good reason for being there.

and as for the home stuff, i was a victim of a home invasion a few years back while my wife and baby were in teh house now let me tell you i rushed that guy quick, he got off a shot but lucky for me it missed me and just got a window but for him being stupid and putting my family in danger he was rewarded with 2 broken wrists and 4 broken ribs.then he went to jail

buddy hopefully nothing comes outta this and it was just someone strung out, and gotta love the mouse in the heater core stuff when it happens, i swear that smell just doesnt go away no matter how long they have been dead!!!!

  6. well today i hauled out the saw and trimmed the front and rear of the front wheelwells and did a little more hamering and also adjusted to front struts up as far as they would go, and now no more rubbing except on extreme turns or large bumps(jumps). i also rolled the top lip of the fender up so there wasnt a chance of it snagging on the tire. i have a little over 2 inches of top clearance now in the front rear is still only about an inch of clearance so tomorrow im gonna make a set of shock extenders to help with that till i get the rest of the kit stuff ready, ill be making them fairly small for now since i wont be dropping the rear diff down for a cpl months , just want to add about another inch or so to the rear ride height.

so obviously the tires are gonna be staying on now, and as soon as i get the lift done ill buy a new set for it.

  7. hey morgan i bet yours have alot more tread depth on them though, i got a used set to start off with with about 1/2 tread on them, the rears are liberators, and the front are falken something or others lol, matching tread depth though

the only form of a lift it has right now is the suspension adjusted all the way up in the back and about 1/2 way in front, the suspension was perfect before i adjusted it so that might help a little

as for price about the onlything that is really gonna cost me anything is the strut tops and steering extension, which im gonna have to get some exact measurements of and have someone make it for me since i dont have a welder tight now.

as for the rest of the stuff i gotta go talk to a guy i know and he might be letting me get all the stuff im gonna need from him 4 free, might even be able to get him to make up the other stuff as well

  8. well tires are coming back off for a little while, and im in the process of rounding up the material im gonna need to make a lift for it, im betting its gonna look real funny with the stock size tires back on and the hole pounded out for the bigger tires, lol. oh well i want it to still be driveable till i get everything i need rounded up the build the lift, i havent decided yet though if im gonna go with the regular 3 inch lift or go with something bigger. ill decide that before i get all my material rounded up.

  9. well money wise worked out a little better than planned and i picked up a used set of 235/75 15 for it yesterday got the other 2 rims finished and after beating the hell outta the front and back of the wheelwells i got them on, still got some turning rubbing issues i gotta take care of but other then that they are on. think i might pull them off 4 a little bit though till i can fab up a lift 4 it since i only have about an inch of clearance on the top of the tire adn even with a slight bump going through my yard it rubbed both front and rear. so right now it may have a bit more ground clearance but its pretty much useless offroad at the moment. i get a few pics of it this afternoon after i get some sleep since i just got home from work.

  10. he actually had about 7 or 8 more i will most likely pic up 1 4 a spare later on, thanks 4 letting me know what they are from flowmastered i really didnt have a clue

soobmater it will prob be a while on a lift but i am gonna cram some bigger tires in there fro now though,i really want that better ground clearance so i stop beating the hell outta my skidplate and rear dif!!!

for those of you looking at the pics and not seeing anything it will be back up in a little bit the photo service i use is down 4 maintenance(sp)

  11. well picked me up a set of rims today for the roo, they are 15 inch i believe toyota rims, ive got 2 drilled out so far and ill do the other 2 tomorrow,

not sure what size OR tire im gonna run yet i gotta go check out the tire size link. i picked up the set used at a local rim place for $60 for the set. heres a cpl of pics while i was doing a test fit after i got the first 1 drilled out

  12. im noticeing what people are posting up distys for sale i have seen mention several times about it being from an auto car.

the reason im asking is the motor i dropped into my 85 was from an 87 4wd auto wagon, and i left the motor complete other than swapping on the better carb from the 85 motor. ither than the fact that the one i have on it now is a nippen denso disty and the original 1 was a hitachi is there any reason it would make any difference in the way my sooby runs???

  13. i dont see any grease coming out of the front axles at all, what it is doing is basically taking a little more effort to turn the wheel, iif you are doing anything over 40 or so, basically the only way i can describe it is like the front wheels are both pointing outward in the front a little and making it want to stayt straight at higher speeds. doesnt look like they are pointed out at all looking at it from the front

  14. the sooby has been driving a little funny the last few days, kinda feeling like the steering isnt as responsive as it was before, and yesterday when i was leaving work i was doing about 20 or so around a 180 type of corner the front started flopping and it felt kinda like a really loose rim would feel (adn yes that was the first thing i checked out, i havent actually crawled under it yet but did a quick visual inspection and cant see anything bent or broken. adn the axle nuts were good and tight.

its been driving like this since a few days ago when i was rallying it(or whatever you wanna call it) around the field by my barn and i hit a 10 foot dropoff type hill doing about 30 and went airborn for about 15 feet or so( didnt see the dip since it was like 130am lol) and when i landed i think the tires were turned a little bit to the left, its the pass side that did the flopping btw.

pushing on the tire on the front i can hear a little bit of a clunking sound coming from somewheres around the tires but not sure of exactly where

so any ideas of what i should look at maybe being broken if i get a chance to get under it tomorrow?

  15. i went with a turbo 2 muffler by cherry bomb, got it at AZ for $15 bucks. it sounds nice and quiet for the first month or 2 then you wil notice a little noise after that but not too much.kinda gives the car the sound of a bad or leaking turbo lol

another good muffler that i have liked is a thrush muffler, i have 1 on my 4 cyl plymouth breeze and it sounds decent on a 4cyl, got that 1 at advanced for 20 i think.

  16. hey dont forget to add screen doors as well lol, got a piece of that running in the front from the bumper to the front of the skidplate mount spot, and also used a piece of it to fill in the holes in the stock 1 lol.

on the subject though i have heard the road sign thing a well, its good heavy duty metal so i think it would work for something simple
