Right now, for the time being, I'm afraid the meantime is really "mean time" since I am "Subaruless" . I did see around town a 97 Legacy wagon with 150,000+ miles for $3800, but it just seemed to be a bit too pricey (and has since been bought by someone who apparently didn't think so). But you can be sure I am looking for the "For Sale" signs on Subaru windows!

Very nice line-up! I just gave my one and only soob to my son (which I miss already - yeah, I miss my son too:)), so seeing all your Subarus reminds me that there are more out there just waiting to be discovered.

I finally parted with my 87 Subaru GL Wagon. But I'm keeping her in the family at least, since I gave all 200,000+ miles of her to my college son who is now caring for her. By the way, I told him how good and helpful this board is and he registered, so if you see "FrisbeeFreak" hanging around the board, say Hi! Hope to have a Subaru again some day and I'm sure I'll be checking in from time to time to see if anything is available. Thank you to all of the fine folks here at USMB for the help and knowledge you've given me through this forum.

Walla Walla here. My stock Subaru so far has been an around town car; no serious offroading (except for that one road into the Blue Mountains, but the huge ruts made me think twice and I turned around). Anyway, the odometer just rolled over 200,000; happy birthday to roo!

First of all, thanks for all the help from this board for helping me figure out how to remove the window crank handles in my 87 GL wagon. Now that I can remove them and see the gears, what do you suggest for lubricating the window hardware, gears, etc? I am thinking a little shot of WD40. One of my windows can be a little difficult to roll up especially when the weather is a bit on the cold side. Thanks to all the fine folks at USMB!

I had a grinding-type noise coming from the front right wheel and it turned out to be bearings.

I need to remove the manual window crank handles in my 87 GL Wagon. Before I start prying them off, I thought I'd better ask how to do it. So, how do I remove the window crank handles? I didn't see any screw holding them on. Do they just pry off? Thanks, Steve

I had one blue service manual that came with the car, but it was so full of grease I threw it away. Now I wish I had it . . . grease and all.

When I bought my Subaru it came with an extra set of snow tires mounted on the original white wagon wheels. I have since removed the snow tires and would like to repaint and use the wheels. They are in very good shape with little rust. I need information about how to go about repainting them, especially what prep I need to do and what is the best paint (type, brand) to use? I have never done anything like this before. Thanks, Steve

Greetings! I thought it was time for a first post (to satisfy the red words at the top of the page bugging me to make a first post ) The problem: in my 87 GL wagon when idling at a light with the heater on I get a strong fuel smell coming through the heater vents. It doesn't seem to happen while the car is moving but only when stopped and idling. The smell is strong enough to cause my wife to roll down the window and not want to ride in the car at all. My mechanic noticed that I had a hole in my exhaust near the front of the car and theorized that maybe when idling the smell was coming up between the motor and heater intake? causing the smell. I had the exhaust fixed but the smell remains. The guy who fixed the hole in my exhaust noticed some oil had leaked on the exhaust near the motor and theorized that it (the oil) was causing the smell. Can't say yes or no to that one since I haven't cleaned off the oil. I am a bit skeptical since the smell is more like fuel than burning oil. I searched USMB and found a similar thread (http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=9781&highlight=heater+smell) However, since I wasn't sure of forum etiquette regarding resurrecting old threads I decided to start a new one. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Or, if anyone else is having the same issue feel free to share your expertise. Not using the heater comes to mind, but it gets a bit cold in the car .
