Pesky Check Engine Light
hutch85 replied to legacyak's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHave this same problem with my 02 Legacy wagon. It has been going on for about 5 months. I have had it diagnosed and cleared a few times as being the catylitic converter. Performance has been fine except for a few as you mentioned, drops in rpms at stops. My mechanic told me to hold out for as long as I can given the cost of a replacemtn cat.

Tires From Forester onto Legacy
http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/pts/222038800.html I have been looking for some winter tires for my 02 Legacy L Wagon, Would these be better than the all seasons that I am using now for snow and ice? (snowboard season trips over the pass). If these would work would I be able to just replace the one tire or do all have to be replaced at once? Any help would be great. Thanks

Clutch oddity with my 98 Forester
hutch85 replied to binary visions's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have this same problem on my 02 leggy wagon everyone once in a while. I always solved it by playing with the spring on the pedal. Just look underneath where the pedals are and you will see the spring that works on the clutch pedal. Just playing with it seemed to fix it. I am mechanically inept so I have no idea what I am doing down there what what the spring does but it always works. Good luck.

Engine Shudder
hutch85 replied to hutch85's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNot sure when they were changed. Not real recently as far as I know. Is this something that would be fairly easy for me to fix. DIY for a noob? Cost? Thanks for your help.

Engine Shudder
02 Legacy L Wagon 5MT. I have been experiencing some shudder, hesitation, lack of power, indecisive, inconsistent, etc behavior recently. I notice it most when I am holding a speed, more noticeable at lower speed. It feels like the engine will suddenly pull a little bit or shudder. I am mechanically challenged in most respects so simple answers are best. Thanks for any help. Oil has been changed regularly, all maintenance is up to date. Only new thing is a bottle of fuel additive that was in my last tank of gas. New tank of gas now.

towing question
hutch85 replied to adamthegreek's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have an 02 Legacy L wagon MT and pull a 16' boat with 115 hp motor, probably weighs more than what you're talking about and the car handles it fine. Gas mileage drop was neglible too!

Skidding with AWD?
hutch85 replied to gcleeton's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI agree, sideways is better. Sometimes not when you don't expect it though. Coming back from snowboarding and was probably going to fast. I came into a turn with concrete dividers on one side and a huge snow embankment on the other. Suddenly the car gently fishtailed so that I was going almost perpendicular to the curve. With very little experience in such a situation I managed to make it through the rest of the curve like that, constantly shouting "I GOT IT I GOT IT" to my passenger. Scary during, but incredible feeling afterward. My point is just reiterating the ease of Subaru's in sideways motion.
