I have a 01 legacy GT Limited sedan; fully loaded; I get 30 Mpg ( miles per IMPERIAL gallon ) I use mobil 1 5w-30; no mods; well ( very well ) maintained; car has 124,000Km

My think its piston slap. Slight ticking sound at idle when the engine is cold. After the car warms up....no noise what so ever. Maybe its valve tick???

I have a 01 legacy GT limited; with 120,000 Km. 3 weeks ago put Mobil1 5W-30. Piston slap still there. Lasts about 2-5 minutes until engine comes up to normal operating temp. I have used synthetic's in all cars I own. My engines last well over 300,000km. I use Mobil 1 because; its seems improve the longevity of the engine, and somewhat improves gas milage.

Folks I need the coolant temp switch. Dealer wants way too much. Anyone want to sell? Hopefully this fix the "hard starting" when cold.

The rear disks with emergency brakes require you turn the piston in. Pushing the piston will ruin the piston.

Was it under warranty? If not how much did it cost? Did the engine have to be removed? Rakesh

Steve, Thanks so much for your response. I appreciate the time you took to post the link. It appears that my 01 legacy is prone to an external HG leak. I will follow up to ensure that the coolant conditioner is installed. Any other advise would be helpful. Thanks, PS: Is it a serious enough issue to sell/trade the car. Just bought the car. It has 65,000 Miles. It was dealer maintained. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I just bought a 01 legacy sedan GT Ltd. I love the car. Is my engine prone to H.G. failure? What can I do to increase life of H.G. I have had subaru's for 10 yrs. Never have I had engine problems Thank you for your assistance.
