  1. Just wondering if there's any reason not to use 4wd while driving around town? Obviously using 4wd all the time will create more general wear and tear but that's not a big issues as I rarely drive the car. My L series has an ej22 and I have to be careful when taking off or it just loses traction even with 26" muddies. I've got the auto 4wd button so could I just have that turned on? And also does anyone know how the auto 4wd works on the l series?
  2. With the rubber trim on the gutter? From what I can tell standard metal clamp gutter mounts would clamp onto the trim not the gutter, weather damaging it and/or having a weak mount
  3. So you reckon standard gutter mounts will work? Not worried about height as I'm fitting them over the low part of the roof for a possible tyre and spotlight mount. Any chance to have a close up pic of yours mounted to the gutter?
  4. just wondering if anyone knows which roof racks fit an l series with the rubber/chrome trim along the gutter? It seems like it would be in the way or gutter mount roof racks? Would I need to remove the trim? I know i can use the roof racks that mount in a rail fitted to the roof but they're too hard to find or expensive.
  5. Now I know to prepare to be disappointed if/when I buy any more aftermarket cvs haha
  6. Just a clean and a regrease + new boot? Even if it was clicking? I don't have locked diffs and while I've had the car it's spent most its life in the shed lol....who knows how it was treated before hand though
  7. The one I removed was actually oem but I wanted new shaft straight away so I just ordered new ones and figured I'd rebuild the oem one as a spare. I will keep an eye out for more oem ones but I'd say finding them or finding someone that even knows what oem ones are would be pretty slim where I'm from. Also axles would/should last me a while as I only drive the car a few times a month. People buy cheap because 1. Its all they can afford 2. Availability. 3. Not knowing what they're doing.
  8. Prying the shaft through won't damage the bearings? Guess I'm returning the one that's pulling apart
  9. The one the "falls apart" slides in quite easily, as does the old one I pulled out. The amount of persuasion it would need would involve a large hammer. The one that "falls apart" it seems the joint simply pulls out of the housing but goes back in with the right amount of force and the biggest issue it is seems to want to push itself apart.
  10. I got 2 new cv axles for my l series from repco and I'm having a seriously hard time getting them in. For a start they're both different i believe one is a new model and one and old and they both have flaws they make it impossible to install. One of them the shaft that goes through the hub is too big and won't go through at all and the other one the cv joint at the gearbox end falls apart everytime while trying to fit it. Any suggestions? Before I take them back and demand a refund
  11. Alright someone's said they're all the some and someone's said they're not? I checked repco online and they seem to only have one sort of axle for the l series? And also now just get whatever axles are cheapest and put plenty of grease in them? Just removed one of my axles and it looks like its a genuine one, the sticker is all warn but it definitely said subaru. Now I will get some aftermarket ones for now but in the future would it be worth rebuilding the old subaru ones? Although it appears the other one isn't oem but I guess 1 oem is better than none. Also I counted the splines and it appears to be 23 so that solves that issue.
  12. Thanks I'll check out the repco ones. Any idea how to tell which one I need? It seems the mpfi and carby have different part numbers but mine is ej22 swapped and I have no idea what it was originally. It's a 5spd dual range.
  13. im after some new axles for me 2" lifted l series, I'd go oem but it seems they don't make them any more? Does anyone know what aftermarket ones are decent?
  14. Awesome thanks for clearing that up guys. So if I order say 11044AA112 would the newest revision just get sent out? I'm guessing they're the only ones made now?
  15. Hi so I'm doing the headgaskets on my 92 liberty 2.2 and it seems there's 3 different part numbers and I can't figure out if they're all the same or not. These are the numbers 11044AA114, 11044AA111, 11044AA112. Does anyone know the difference if there is any? Thanks
