  1. I finally cured mine last month after I replaced the oil pump seals. I kinda miss being able to say my car has the TOD:)
  2. A couple of months ago, I let my Rare Form drummer (that's my San Diego band - I live in Fresno 348 mi away) drive me to our guitarist's house after the Halloween gig. OK. He HAD to drive me because I was in no condition to do so myself. But I've driven him home on numerous occations so I figure it was payback. Well, this week-end, at the $2000 Xmas Party gig at Loew's Coronado (I love saying that) he complimented me on how well the car drove. That compliment is a greater reward than I could ever get from a car that I didn't bring back from certain death.
  3. You have respect here! We love you man... well in a platonic sense I mean. Hang in there and show you're no follower. I'm forty, NEVER made a car payment, and driving my third reanimated subie (Murphy, the $500 87 T-Wag). Learn to play guitar or bass, and then when all the other guys in the band who have "cool" trucks and are trying to put the tarps over their equipment to keep it from getting wet, you're stuff is packed and dry in the wagon. You're already on the road, kickin' it in 4WD to get through the snow as you drive home from the Gig at Bass Lake (s of Yeosemite). PS. Tarps fall off. Roofs never do... unless you have a Yugo convertible:)
  4. Could this thing cause a high CO smog reading?? For more info on the problem, go here.
  5. WOW!!! That's both scary AND cool at the same time. Of all the wierd things I've come across, I've never seen anything like this before! Good luck.
  6. WOW! That is a wonderfull looking wagon. I almost got to buy an 84 Turbo Wag with the same color scheme, but someone else got to it first.
  7. Seeing that the registration expired at the end of last month I figured it was time to Murphy smogged and registered. This is the first time I've tried to have the $500 87 T-Wag smogged since I rebuilt it (nwe engine, new tranny - awfull 3 spd). CO too high. The smog tech (who wasn't that familliar with Subies - couldn't locate the ECU which I found both troubling and amusing) seems to think the problem is a temp sensor, which is causing the car to run too rich. I wonder if this helps explain my poor gas mi. (18 avg), and the fact that my ugly digi-dash temp gauge tends to sporatically show higher that normal temp reading? I have included a scan of the smog results with this post. BTW, 02 sensor is new so that shouldn't be the problem. PS. Did I mention that I HATE the 3 spd autotranny? 4000 RPM @ 70 MPH! Sucks!!! And yes I reallize it was made for the 55 mph legal limit of the day. I'm semi-old and remember those horrible times!!! :-)
  8. I think I just killed two birds with ont stone. Replace all the oil pump gaskets, and when I filled the oil pan with the proper amount of oil, plus a little MMO, no more leaks and no noticeable TOD. Now to install the passenger side speaker that has been sitting on the flood for 2 1/2 months.
  9. They're super easy to work on. The only other engine that was as easy was in my 76 civic, which later found life in a 79 Accord hatch back.
  10. Yea. I know. I just like way the phrase sounds. I almost don't want fix it so I can keep telling people my car has the dreaded "Tick Of Death"!!! But then it does suck when you're waiting in a drive thu.
  11. Yea, EA82T. It was supposed to have only about 50,000 mi on it.
  12. Well, judging from the drip location, it looks like the oil pump gasket is shot. I wish I would have thought of that earlier. And of coarse no one has one so I'll have to go to the dealer tomorrow to get one. Would having a leaky gasket contribute to the TOD? And isn't there a spring you can stretch on the rocker arm assembly that will help stop the TOD?
  13. Crappy-crap! I thought / hoped the oil leak was the crank shaft seal, cause it's easy to fix. Well, that's not where the leak is, and I took the thing apart for nothing! But I still don't know where the drip is coming from. Drips when it runs. Stops when it's not. Hungry. Must eat now and maybe that will clear my head.
  14. Thanks man. It needed a bumb. I will be in the garage today replacing the seal. I'm just glad it's not the rear main that is leaking.
