  1. Got a 99 legacy SUS and want to know if disabling AWD to save gas is OK to do long-term. (don't need it in Texas too much)
  2. Very well. One last question. Any tricks to getting the piston out?
  3. Where can I get a rebuild kit (or do I just get the seals, etc. seperately?).
  4. Thanks Dave, I think I will try rebuilding them. All I have to do is find a kit. I think all I need is the seal and dust boot around the piston. It's worth a shot and is cheaper. Otherwise, I'll go to the P&P or S-wings. Tim
  5. I need calipers for my 83 GL 2WD. Do any of you board members recommend any online shops? I know shipping costs play into the decision. I have priced rebuilt calipers with local shops and the price is either $50-$60 or $110-$160. The main difference seems to be pads vs. no pads. The dealership wants $120 (I suppose those are new ones). So, I am asking for suggestions. Also - my brain is telling me to replace them in pairs. Is that wise or unneccesary and why? Tim
  6. Ever see a spring let go and hit someone? I have. Buy/rent the spring compressors.
  7. .......where did you guys wind up this weekend? I need to expand my list of yards to go to. I see Todd found a new toy! Tim
  8. ....of luck. My loved one wants to go to a Home and Garden show in Ft. Worth Saturday. Let me know if you see any top strut mounts that will work on an 83 GL. If we go early and get back early enough, I may try to catch up, but that may be a stretch! I really wanted to go. Wahhh!
  9. .... the Dallas yards. We could meet near I-30 & Loop 12 somewhere (if someone could figure out where exactly....I don't know the area.
  10. ... I just read Steve's first post. Dallas yards is where Okami was originally headed. I've never been to any but the P&P on Loop 12. What else is over there? Tim
  11. ......tomorrow. My loved one (aka wife) wants to go to some food something or another and I forgot to ask her if Saturday or Sunday was her desired day to go. So, I will nail that down tomorrow. She's cutting zz's already and I forgot to ask her about it brfore she hit the sack. I know we have to be at some friends house at 7:00 PM Sat. night, so I gotta be back at the house by 5-ish. As for a possible meeting place - what part of the area would we attack first? Probably want to meet near the heaviest concentration of yards (if there is such a thing). Being the "newbie", I only know about Apache in Mansfield, I-35 foreign south of FW on I-35 in Alvarado and the Pick and Pull on Loop 12/Spur 408 in Cockrell Hill near the intersection with Jefferson. Hmmm.........we live in Denton, Euless, Dallas, Ft. Worth and ?? for Okami. How about meeting at the Cracker Barrel on I-20 and Bowen in Arlington? From there, Apache would be close and then down I-35W South to I-35 Foreign? Gee I hope I get to go! Tim
  12. Steve, Depending on when the wife and I go to the State Fair, I may be able to join in the hunt. I'll know more the closer I get to the weekend. I sent a PM earlier to you with a "probably not this weekend" reply BUT that may change. Have you ever been to I-35 Foreign in Alvarado? It is south of FW on I-35. They used to have quite a few 80's Subs. Also a place called Apache Foreign on Mansfield Highway in Kennedale (I think) had a fair number as well.
  13. Caleb - you have a PM from me with my email address. I thought I had it marked public. PAUSE........I just went to my profile and it have "no" selected for hiding my email so I don't know what the deal is. Tim
  14. That's great! I think it is Steve that sent me a PM when I first registered. Send me email when you hear something (and I really appreciate it!). You guys being in the DFW area is good to know! Tim
  15. Got it. Get compressors for the spring (McPherson type) and work on it. Shawn, I need the passenger side top mount and it does appear from the specs that it matters not if it's 2W or 4W (Dave is right, I have a 2WD). One more question. Should I seek a rebuilt disc brake caliper from an auto supply or get it from the board? I have not called an auto supply yet, but was wondering if I can even get a rebuilt for an 83 GL from them. I would love to give board members my business, but shipping costs come into play and they are not the lightest things you know. Hmmmmm, should I replace them as a pair? Being in Subaru wilderness (Texas is not crawling with Sub's) is not cool. Tim

  17. The top mount broke so I need a new mount and advice on how to get the piece that is still attached to the top of the strut off. I have the assy off the car and I can't see the strut in order to keep it from rotating when I turn the top nut.
