I'll take a '77 Lotus Esprit Turbo (White of course) over one...... or a Lancia Stratos....

I could come up with a dozen more I'm sure. All of which are sure to turn more heads than an SVX.

I would rather have my svx than that Esprit or ANY car you name. I've been through this woth some of my non-svx nut friends. There is no car I would rather have.

PS- That Esprit was designed by the same firm that designed the svx. ;)

I've had no overheating problems at all. I had the car serviced by Kerven Subaru about 2 weeks ago and they had indicated to me that the coolant level was low at that time (they added some). The thermostat housing looks good. The coolant appears to be originating somewhere at the rear right of the engine (turbo side), although it could be just running back there from somewhere else. The area around the coolant temp sensor is dry.

  3. The eg33 in my svx is a simply amazing engine. Great power band, awesome smoothness and the thing just sings. Sounds like a porsche almost.

If you were only talking about the 3.0, then I would say that is a great engine too. There isnt much acceleration difference beteen the 2.5 and the 3.0 in the outbacks, but you'll find it downshifting less and such when you're driving on the highway. It is easier to keep your speed without downshifting. The engine is smooth, although not as smooth as the svx motor. If i were to get an outback right now, I would, without a doubt, get the 6 cylinder model.

  4. Greetings all!

First, let me introduce myself as this is my first post. My name is mike and i've recently purchased an 88 RX 3 door. I'm no stranger to subarus as i've owned an SVX for quite some time and I work for a subaru dealership. I've had my SVX for about 3.5 years and I'm a moderator over at the svx world network forum (http://www.subaru-svx.net). The RX I got was quite a find. I got it from the original owner and it came with all the service history and even the original window sticker! She took very good care of it and always garaged it!

Anyway now I should get to my problem.

The car starts right up and revs up as normal. Then after about 5 seconds the rpm's drop quickly, and the car stalls. This can be avoided by pressing the gas pedal. Once the car warms up (must hold the gas pedal down to keep the revs up for about 5 mins, very annoying) the car will idle just fine when you take your foot off the gas. You can drive the car normally then and there are no problems. Once the car sits long enough for the engine to again cool off, the problem returns.

My original thought was that it could be the IAC. I removed the IAC valve and cleaned it out with carb cleaner per the advice of a tech at the dealer where I work. This had no effect on the problem.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks to all!

    Mike
