  1. does anyone have any experience with putting on an aftermarket voltage stabilizer that connects to the battery and if so how do you like it. was it worth it? dave
  2. i went to circuit city and had a remote start put in for 157, it comes with one remote. for a little over 200 they will give you two remotes
  3. to make this cover i took cardboard box and made a template that was somewhat accurate the cut it out of 1/2 plywood, then covered the wood with cushion and vinyal i got from an auto upholstery store. i used hinges from homedepot and used weather striping around the edges to make more water tight. it was really simple and i am not a carpenter hence my screen name.
  4. i made my own hard cover using the ozz bros as the idea to copy. mine only cost me around 100 to build and even though i am not a carpenter i did a decent job. i used weather striping around areas of possible water leakage and would say that it keeps out almost all the water. i built mine really to keep snow out which wont most likely leak in. but i also have a roof cargo bag which is water proof that i have inside my bed which attachs to the bed tie downs and is as large as the bed so even if mine leaks the bag will protect my stuff. just my input for a cheap alternative. if i had an extra 500 i would buy the ozz bros. but i am also holding out the subaru will release theres for sale by next spring.
  5. when is the last time you changed your belts? sounds like its loose just push on it and see how much slack you have, you can tighten belts with belt adjuster mounted in front of the belts.
  6. i have owned 6 subarus and all went very high miles with no major problems at all. i change at before required sched times of mainanence the oil, tranny fluid, fuel filter, air filter, plugs/wires, timing belt, brake fluid, pads/rotors (drilled), all hoses and belts, radiator fluid every season. i never had an engine problem in any of my scoobys. as well when i change somthing like hoses and rotors i put on high performance parts like drilled rotors, silicone hoses, iridium spark plugs, performance exhaust. but use OEM for filters. and i do all work myself. i think subarus run forever if you just use preventative maintenance. i never even had to replace struts on any of them and i put well over a 100k miles. 97 outback wagon 91 legacy 91 legacy wagon 99 impreza RS 02 impreza RS 05 baja turbo
  7. i had an 02 impreza rs with the SOHC engine and put over 110K miles when i traded it in. i never had an engine knock or ping ever. i used 87 octane when i first got the car but when i put Iridium spark plugs in i had to switch to 93 octane and changed fuel filter regularly.i would suggest trying an octane booster, or gas treatment and even you can put a few ounces of tranny fluid in the oil crank case and that will quiet alot of ping and valve noise. when you put tranny fluid in the crank case it acts kinda like a cleaner to the engine and can loosen build up which can be making noise.
  8. i have a 05 baja turbo and recently traded my 02 impreza rs both manuals state oil capcity of 4.1qt. but i find i end up putting in 5qts to make my stick read to the full line and sometimes it may be a little over that and i never had a problem with my engine ever. when i put 4 qts in the stick reads low i dont know the reason when the manual states 4.1 to fill.
  9. i was wondering since you cant order a factory hard bed cover yet for the bajas unless you got the leather package, is it possible that another country that sells bajas may be able to sell the hard cover as an accessory. subaru has a global site that you can go to any countrys subaru web site but you better know the language to know what to click on at the site you choose. any ideas about this would be appreciated, has anyone had the same idea?
  10. i would put a good fuel system cleaner in and run high test gas for a while. if pings still you can put a small amount of tranny fluid in oil crankcase to quiet it down as well. if you put high performance plugs in you need high test gas. like iridium plugs. dave
  11. i found that continental extreme contact from tire rack to be superb tires in rain dry and some snow if roads are plowed. they didnt fare well when i had to drive through 4+ inchs of snow. i have winter heavy snows for ny upstate winter and summer treads like continentals which are a great price as welll
  12. I bought an 05 baja turbo. I have seen alot of aftermarket turbo things like blow off valve, turbo timer, manual boost control. can someone tell me if they are worth having to increase performance and do they extend turbo life? any help would be appreciated.
  13. you should goto bestbuy or circuit city and get one installed for cheaper then 500 and still get a great head unit with sat radio. i saw them on sale this weekend in the sunday paper. they will install it as well. go to ebay for new rotors for around 130 for 4 rotors and they are drilled dont get slotted. the drilled will last longer stop you faster and save your pads while keeping brakes cool.
  14. hi i have a 2005 baja turbo and just traded my 02 impreza RS with 102K on it and running strong. on my RS i had put drilled rotors on that i got on ebay for cheap aroun 130 for all 4 rotors they worked great and easy to put on. subaru rotors warp easy as i have found in my past of owning 6 subarus. i would just change them to solve your problem. i as well have the factory radio in my 05 with 6cd changer. i am happy with it and will upgrade with the factory subwoofer eventually. but overall i installed a satellite radio and its all i listen to. i have kids so ear pounding power isnt needed. but changing the radio is easy and could range from 200 and up depending on what you put in. go to Best buy or Circuit city and get a cheaper deal. i had a 3K dollar system in my 02 impreza with dvd and all and ill tell ya i never used the power i had. nice looking and once in awhile turn it up but overall never used it for the power. i think the 80 watts is enough for the family man.
