That's the hard way Skip steps 3 - 7, instead of dissassembling the ball joint, remove the bolts for the sway bar end-link and front lower control arm mount. This will give you enough clearance to remove the axle without dissassembling the tie rod & ball-joint.
It's a real time saver! Unless you need to change the ball joints as suggested above
