  1. yeah, things change. it was VERY hard to try and get rob out of his "burien bubble". god knows i tried. like pullin' freakin' teeth!! i agree, a fitting death indeed. i'll see you at the next show. i didnt make the last one though, i was in colorado. i guess the only constant IS change.
  2. they should consider updating their website, or at least make a notation there. j.m.o (just my opinion). i'm not sure how they would LOOSE money selling subaru stuff(especially what the cost of raw tubing/sheet is. the kit is basicly tube sections w/ very little to no welding except on a couple of parts, versus the cost of a lift kit and that they are known by almost every suby nut. plus any design &/or r & d has WELL been paid for by now), but whatever. i have tried at least 3 times to get a set of paper instructions from them(at the prompting & belittlement of a few members for needing them) for several months for a lift kit that i got from a friends car. i just want to make sure i had everything, but no help, no response, and more important, no instructions!! i bought a set of wheels from them and asked for the instructions 3 times during that conversation, but when the wheels showed up, you guessed it, no instructions. i've been a member here for at least 5 years under a couple of different usernames and the site/people/enthusiasim seems to have gone down. alot of the postings are very old, not updated, and it seems that the most active folks are scott in b'ham and his posse. even the "founders" have moved on to toyotas, or other 4x4's. i've even recently owned a samurai, i drive a 94 ranger 4x4 daily, and still have a suby. it is not my go-to 4x4 anymore, but it still gets lots of looks and questions from people when i drive it. i think that off-roading suby's ROCKS, but until the limitations of the SUSPENSION(putting in a 2.0 or bigger motor is pointless w/out MORE articulation)are dealt with, they will be religated to just being a mid level trail rig. for me, thats all i expect from it, nothing more. my sammy has a stock 1.3 litre and handles anything i throw its way, but it FLEXES like a mother f*cker, which is what the most basic of off-roading principals are based on, keeping ALL FOUR wheels on the terrain. i guess like anything in life, things change, and i guess i'm longing for the days gone by. flashback to 1993. i remember when there was only one guy in seattle (maurcel,he used to work at aarons auto wrecking WAYYYY back in the day), who owned a brat that he had cut out the fenders and slapped a set of t.s.l's on it. do you remember him, eric, ken? then rob at arrons and later still at superior, started in on his hatch. he still has it, its sitting behind the shop on 3 flat, ruined new t.s.l's. oh, those were the days!! i even bought my first set of pugs from ken(damn, you lived far away). i'm not trying to flame here, just expressing my opinion on the state of things according to my observations on this board and out there on the trails. my next rig will be a suzuki sidekick. stock they will put almost any suby(modified or not) to shame, and the aftermarket support is amazingly huge. plus, relatively new(90& up) 'kicks are a dime a dozen, so it makes them an affordable, modern, fun to wheel rig. i like to drive the underdog rig, but i just cant see doing too much of that anymore in a suby. maybey i'm just getting old, is 41 old now? i heard that 40 is the new 30, so if anyone knows, pass it on!!
  3. hey folks, just looking at the board the past few days (after a time away from the board), and i have noticed that the last time allied posted anything for sale/under developement has been quite awhile. although i saw the 300 hp wagon, iand its cool, but is this the direction that they are going? in fact the last time i saw a post was when i bought a set of the "closeout" wheels. kick rump roast deal!! also, any thoughts/plans/dates for this years wcss? just curious what the word on the street is.
  4. clutch? whats that? it looks like there has been a pretty good leak from the shaft that controls the 4x4(underneath the car), thats why i'd rather replace the tranny than try to fix it, since it will not be enough for harder off roading. thanks for the clutch-pointer though!!
  5. thanks for your info, it will surely help me in the next few days.
  6. thats good to know. i'd like to go the easier way for sure, just cuz i'm impatient. what year(s) would the d/r/ need to come out of, same as my car?
  7. hey s.i.b, i was wanting to contact you regarding a trip w/ you guys this winter. i'll be getting my d/r set up done soon now that i have a better grip on what i need to get. i do custom metal fabrication and build bumpers and the like. i'm located in arlington and would love to meet up sometime, maybe you can help me w/ welding up my diff?
  8. you are correct sir. it is driver side top. when you say i'll need another driveshaft, is it the 5 speed d/r driveshaft, or another/custom one? also, would the extra bracket also be from said 5 speed d/r, or also other/custom one needed? also, what year(s) would the parts need to come from?
  9. cool, good to hear as the tranny goes into 4wd easy, but tuff to get back out. the dreadded "THUNK" when going back to 2wd.! i know i've got to replace it sooner rather than later, so i'll look for the 5mt model. thanks!
  10. hey out there, i wanted to know if anyone has info on swapping a d/r tranny in my '83 single range wagon? a friend said he didnt think it would work cuz he thought the starter location is off to the side w/ the d/r and more up top on my '83. i am going w/ a 5-6" lift on it w/ a.a. 15" wheels, probably 27" swampers too. i think that the drop of the engine would allow for the clearance for the side mounted starter, but i am not sure. any ideas?
  11. good to hear. gonna repost about my d/r swap tho, no hits on that subject yet.
  12. i figured i would need both for there. we got pretty far at evans creek, but we were limited by no welded rears. we got some great pics, and if i ever figure out how to post pics here, i'll put'em up.
  13. my friend picked up a lift kit from a boneyard in portland but isnt sure if he has all of the pieces. does anyone have a complete partslist or paper instructions that you can post? it is a 4" kit.
  14. just watched all of the new walker valley clips and i'm itchin' to get out. i've got a question.... can i put a dual-range tranny in my single range 1983 wagon. i was told by one gut that he didnt think it would go because of where the starter sits. he says its higher on the 81, and more off to the side on the 82. it looks like there is enough clearance, but maybe someone has done this swap or could'nt do this for the mentioned reason. one more thing. will a welded rear end cut it at walker, or will i NEED to have the d/r first? i've been to evans creek a bunch of times w/ just superswampers, cut fenders, no lift and had a great time cuz theres a bunch of mixed trails to use, but i've never been to walker valley. i live in arlington now, and it seems like the closest legal place to go. thanks for any info that comes my way.
  15. yeah, exellent vid clips. i just watched all of them and it makes me stoked to get my new project lifted. its an '83 ea81, just picked up a set of a.a. rims. i wanna weld up my diff too. looking forward to going on a trip this winter. thats the best time to go around here. nothing like slogging thru the mud for a day!!!!
  16. TOTALLY STOKED for the sooby show!!!! i look forward to seeing everyone from last year, as well as to meet and make new friends too. C-U THERE!!
