EJ22 - VSS wire

Checked the write-up (thanks chux!) but can't figure out what to do with the VSS wire (swapping into a previously carbed 86 GL). In the Legacy, the VSS is located in the gauge cluster - is there a reed switch in the EA82 cluster also?

yep.

finally got around to scanning the diagram from my chilton's manual. really the only EA82 diagram you need

So - the carbureted EA82 also has this speed sensor? What function does it serve in the carbureted cars?

yep, it's there. I don't think it has a function on carbed cars...but it's there anyway.

What about an ea81? Does the VSS wire hook up to the dash cluster on those as well?

yea, as far as I know, most EA81s do have it. but I don't have any diagrams for those.

On an EA81 it is a seperate 2 pole pigtail coming out of the speedo section of the dash. Scavenge a *T* shaped 2 pole connector from something else and wire it in to that. Yellow/red wire is the signal, black is ground.

Nice. Thanks for the tip. I wasn't really wanting to add installing a speed sensor to my project. The list is long enough and I'm running out of time.

OK a couple of things.

A: the wiring diagram that Chux gave is some what in-correct. In that the numbers are off. The loyale plugs go from 1-23. On mine (85 crabed GL) the plugs have seperate number counts. The right (psg side) is 1-7 and the left is 1-14.

So when looking at the wireing digram for chuxs loyale it will not be correct. It is tue however that the #4 wire that says "speed pulse" is the correct numbeer to corespond to the VSS. The way I figured this out was pull out the cluster and follow the curcuit board. The only curcuit that did not make sens or that i did not recognize was one called RSW...which I am assuming stands for "reed switch."

But on Chux's diagram you will find that the tach wire is #19 but on mine it is #7. I found that out by again following the circuit board on the back of the cluster and then matching up the pins connectors with wires. I know I got the right one because my tach does work.

Hope this helps.
