I am looking at a '99 impreza outback hatch, it has 97k on it, dealer maintained its whole life, timing package just done on it, newer tires, auto trans., some rust under rear wheel well, small dents on one of the doors, other than that pretty standard...he wants $2800 for it. good deal? what should i look for on these models or be aware of before giving the ok? thanks, im new to subaru but not to cars. been into VW's, honda's and older mopar muscle.

The 2.2L engine is usually pretty solid, although it's good that the timing components were changed since it's an interference design in MY '99. ''Torque bind'' (use the search function if not familiar with the term) can be a problem with AWD -- was the trans worked on, and if so, what was done?

Put brain in gear

97k, service on tbelt done, if its clean i say its a decent one.

do all tires match.

They're selling for twice that in that condition (maybe less dents and rust) here. Check for torque bind... if there isn't any signs of that, it sounds good.
