Good find/good trade? 84 Coupe

Featured Replies

I spotted an 84 GL Coupe and stopped to ask about it. It has some rust on the botton panels. Engine is EA81 and looks clean and original, new brake pump, interior is PERFECT. Has 141k on the odo, automatic trans, car has no brakes, it leaks fluid badly from one caliper. We made an agreement I would give him a 3at, starter motor and an alternator for an EA82 and I could have the car. Should I go for it?

Shoot if your giving him a few cheep parts do it. Infact give him the 3at out of the car, that way your almost there for the 5 speed swap.

I cant find any 5spd donor cars :( I also went to see a EA82T GL-10 with 39k on it. Engine ran GREAT but everything else was shot.

I would. EA81s are great motors and the coupes are fun cars. Keep looking a 5 speed will turn up eventually. As for the EA82T...well...do a search on here and you can find out what a good portion of the board thinks of that motor. I think you will have far less trouble with the EA81 than the EA82T..even with the low mileage.

If you wanted to keep it simple im sure someone on here has a 5 speed 2wd tranny out of a loyle somewhere. You justneed to make sure and pick up the rest.

I would definitely pick it up, EA81 coupes are one of the coolest Subarus of the 80's IMO. EA81's are THE most reliable Subaru motors ever made
