A few questions for the glasspacks

Featured Replies

so i have a summit catalog sitting in front of me and was wondering, besides the cherrybombs, and thrush, has anyone used a hedman hedders glass pack,or summit brand, are you getting what you pay for? oh yeah i have an 85 gl hatch 4wd, and want to replace just the muffler, ive searched and im leaning toward a thrush but was also looking at the hedmans, maybe a thrush 2 chamber muffler, i dunno, and which is louder a shorter glasspack or longer , and what about the diameter of it? thanks

the shorter the louder. I like Purple Hornet's personally but the Thrush are ok, I personally would rather use a fart can, the split bank firing order of our cars break up the crappy resonance of the sound so it WONT sound like a pissed off bee in a can (civic).

We get that SEXY pulse effect.

I love when people tell me my car sounds like a WRX

I have a Thrush CherryBomb(CB) under my '85 BRAT. Had to do some custom fabbing to fit it where it's at, but it was nessecary with what I had to work with.

The flange for the doughnut gasket on the end of the Y-pipe had broke off, plus some of the rest of the system was in sad shape. The system looked to be an OEM replacement complete with the way-to-small tailpipe out of the muffler.

I put the CB on the end of the Y-pipe, and used the exhaust piping from under the XT6 I had, as that piping was like new. However, the muffler had rusted-out.

I used a length of 2" EMT conduit to extend the exhaust out past the bumper where the muffler should be. It was something I had here at that time.

It's surprizingly quiet for having a CB under it, but that's probally due to it being sofar up near the engine. Acts more like a resonator than a muffler. I hear more intake noise running up through the gears than I do exhaust noise.

It does have a nice burbble to it idling, and downshifts have a nice sound to them.

I imagine that it would be louder if I had the CB back where the muffler should be. I kinda remember hearing a Sube with a CB under it where the muffler should be, but it's been a few years ago, so I really can't recall just what it sounded like. Do know that I could hear him coming down the road.

thanks, do you guys put tips on the glass packs, turn downs or anything else?also, i was a victim of trying to hook up an 90's chevy two wire horn thats case grounded????? instead of the two small horns , searched a little and found a couple things,it sounds nice and loud even louder than my dodge ram like the old cars but cant hook it up without arching off metal, when i go to mount it, do i need a relay or a different year model ,older two wire car horn, or just abandoned the whole idea alltogeather, i read our horns deliver 12 v with no relay, and the horn on the steering wheel gounds it, just dont have the money for the hella supertones yet, and what makes them work on our cars and not the older other horns?? i thought about mounting it without touching metal, but to me the horn acts like a live circuit, little sketchey to me. thanks

I know, that most of the summit stuff is alright, I bought a trans cooler for my dirt track Chevette it was actually a Perma-cool, in a summit package the instructions may have even had the perma cool logo. I had a Flowtech Red Hots glasspack it was on my old Buick I liked it, it was only $25. I was thinking of going with one on my gl10 once i get it running.
