Anyone else use the LATCH in the center?

Featured Replies

So Subaru has the LATCH system installed in such a way that they're intended for use on the passengers or drivers side of the back seat. I install ours in the middle and use the inner LATCH tether points for each side.

Anyone else?

oh right, good point. it's the LATCH system - the standardized child restraint system now...the two hook/d ring things in the rear seats.

LATCH Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren

You'd think they could come up with a better acronym. :-p

I have no kids, therefore I use no latch.

My 2002 Forester has 3 tethers: left: centre; & right.

But it's tight getting 3 children in the back.

Right now I have 2 child-seats, left and right. And a booster-seat in the centre (no tether needed). That takes up all of the space (from side-door to side-door).

I know this is slightly OT, but often the LATCH anchors have a weight limit (40Lbs?) and often the car seat will have its own lower weight limit when using LATCH anchors. (The lower of the two weights limits is the limit for that seat/car combo.)

My feeling is that since regular belts do not have a weight limit, I'll take a properly adjusted standard belt over LATCH fasteners. Stronger is stronger.

If you want to research, go to car-seat.org - those people are FANATICS, so they'll probably tell you your kid(s) will die in a ball of fire if you deviate from the installation instructions one iota.

I hear you, Gary! Spending hours on a bulletin board talking about repairing Subarus is one thing, but devoting that kind of time to talking about CAR SAFETY SEATS exclusively? A bit odd!

HEY! I'm a child safety seat EXPERT! I'm deeply offended by that remark!
