dukesofhazzard
i've searched ,but didnt find anything about the ECS light on the dash, in the book it says its the (ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM) I QUOTE FROM THE OWNER'S MANUAL," The ECS light will go on when the ignition switch is turned "ON". After the engine starts, it should go out , indicating that the system is operating properly. If the light remains on while the engine is running, possibly something is wrong with the electronic engine control system. so contact your nearest SUBARU dealer as soon as possible." i have a 85 gl hatch and my light comes on like clockwork every day and at the same time , just about 10 min from start up to driving , i have new temp coolant sensor , i thought it was temp related , because it seems it comes on everytime about when the thermostat would open up ,around that time the light would come on and stay on. any suggestions? i dont have clue what it means, thanks ,sorry if its been covered and i overlooked it
dukesofhazzard
the temp runs right below half, i have new accel coil, wires, cap, rotor, ngk plugs, timing at 10 deg, i figure it was good for the high elevation 5000 ft , i drive 4hrs straight with the light on, ive had this car about 4 months and put on about 17,000 miles, it had 153,000 when i got it, i have the car floored 4hrs straight and average 77 -82 mph at 3500 rpm thats all i can get out of her, and when the hills hit it drops to 50-55 mph then shift to 3rd, its a 4 speed, and head winds dont help,
GeneralDisorder
You have a feedback carb model (EA81). You need to wait for the light to come on, then read the codes from the LED on the side of the ECU under the steering column. Remove the kick-panel so you can watch the LED as you drive. It's probably an O2 sensor, or Coolant Temp Sensor code from the symptoms you gave so far. GD
abog
You might have a problem with the oxygen sensor, sensor circuit or exhaust.
