Plastic Bucket seats?

Featured Replies

Does anyone have any experiance using those plastic bucket seats?Im am thinking of getting a set for my offroad toy, Because it seems like just about everytime I go and play in it water comes inside and soaks the seats. So with the mud, water, etc those seats gets pretty slimy and disgusting.Latly I have been just putting towels on the seats so I don't have to sit in the muck. Then the seats get wet again and I get to sit in a wet seat for the remainder of the trip..

So I was kinda thinking plastic seats to get rid of the whole problem with cloth seats and mud. Then go and make some drain holes.

I dunno what do you all think?Anyone ever ran the plastic seats?Anyone know where I might be able to find a set cheap.Ive tried the local parts stores and there prices are about 60-80 bucks a seat.

Thanks in advance.

My buddy had some in his Jeep, and they where hard as hell, plus if you have a wallet in your pocket, it will really kill your rump roast....................

Just ride in the back seats of a brat for a while you'll get the Idea......

I would have to say stay away from the plastic seats. Even with the covers they are hard as hell on the back and rump roast just like One Eye described. I had a set in my old Ramcharger and took them out after 2 days of use! You should try those neoprene seat covers. I have never used them but heard good things. Just an idea.

a seat cover isnt gonna do squat when water is up to where I sit on the seat.I can go play and it is fairly common to have water up to my belt if I am stuck in a deep hole. I dunno maybe some marine grade seats or something.

If your going to try and kill it with water every time you go out and have water up to your seat belt, I wouldnt worry about it, sounds like a stupid Idea to do that in my book but, do what you want, you could put a sprint car seat in there like a butler built or somthing, then you could put a 5 point restraint system in it. You'll some day learn that muddy water is pretty fun to a certian point, but your grow up one day and learn that its not as cool as you think, anyone can drive into a deep rump roast mud hole at 45 MPH and put the fire out, but wheeling on a real rail is a lot more fun than being swamped in your car, then going swiming to hook it up and get it out.

bottom Line in Plastic Seats are a huge FAIL. Leave what you got in it and deal with it. I would fix the trans and front axle before I went wheeling again though.........

I dont like getting swamped, and the interior getting becomeing under water.I especially don't like trying to fish for a hook when the car is underwater(which is why I run a 10 ft cable from a hook on the car to top of the light bar.Just unhook from the lightbar and viola-instant recovery point without triing to find hook in the water)

So Yea I don't like getting swamped, but when you drive in the ruts made by big trucks and the rain fills them up...A lifted subaru is pretty big for a car, but it is still very small compared to a regular lifted fullsize..

and fixing the axle/transmission is my number one objective to do before I can go play again.Right now I am attempting to fix my mazda diesel pickup's leaking rear main, leaking transmission output seal, busted carrier bearing, and no 4th.Right no I have most of those fixed but I am waiting on a driveshaft and the transmission output seal. When the carrier bearing failed, it caused to driveshaft to wobble around.Destroying the input yoke as well as bushing in the tailshaft section of the transmission.Fixed the bushing, but I decided that a new one piece driveshaft was my best bet.It would have been about the same price to replace the carrier bearing and the input yoke..

God I want this truck to be done so I can fix my soob to go play!

I have a set of those black plastic seats I would part with, for me they are too narrow , I put thick Garbage bag seat covers on the rigs I used to get muddy , also where some good waterproof pants and coat helps. take us some pictures next time you swamp that rig SJR

Even better, I have some video,But I can't seem to upload it.

Edit: I have the black plastic trash bag seat covers,But mine ripped.I wonder if the expensive trash bags would be better?Mine weren't the heavy duty ones...
