should be lower radiator hose round gray color

In the housing on the bottom of the block where the lower radiator hose attaches.

Oh, thank god! I was hoping it wasnt under the intake manifold, or what ever that is on top . That just made life alo:banana:t easier,,Thank you derby

with the gasket on the t-stat, should it fit in the housing easily or do you have to squeeze it in,it does not seat very easily at all,it will have to be tightened and squeezed in,,i'm thinkin that is the wrong thermo in there! I did check its operation and it works correctly,the gasket was smashed into the housing,but it seemed to have a tight seal, ???

The rubber squishes a bit when you tighten the bolts. The old one might have swollen a bit over time.

Replace the thermostat on general principle. You are complaining of no heat right? Replace it with a Subaru OEM thermostat and gasket - should be about $15 for both.
