Looks like a thermo-switch to me. Does your car have dealer installed air conditioning? Could be related.

Yes, it does have dealer installed A/C. I think I found a clip that holds it, but I still don't know if it should have anything attached to the end that has a hole in it. I posted a picture on the other link if you care to look and see what you think.

A clearer and focused photo may help. Looks like a readable paper label. A better pic may yield a faster answer.

It's probably just used to sense engine temp - maybe a high temp cut-out for the AC. I don't know enough about the first gen AC systems to tell you for sure what it is but I bet it's related.

I am going to agree that it is a temp sensor like GD suggested, and so did Moosens on the Historic forum. I think I will just let it be, since it does not affect how the car runs.
