About Buying JDM Engines

Featured Replies

One thing you can do is ask the seller to pop the valve covers off and take a picture for you. If they won't do it, I wouldn't buy it. A coating of sludge would be a no go. If it's clean with a little varnish, it's probably ok.

Good point. When you guys in the US talk about getting a JDM engine, does that mean importing one in from Japan? Or buying off a specific importer?

Or buying off a specific importer?
that one. there's tons of companies here importing them, so just pick one from whoever you want.

Hi,

I've bought from importers on the west coast, so that's all I'm familiar with. Last one I bought from an individual who bought, then didn't use it. Ended up with shipping to me, about $70.00 less than he paid for it.

Lucky guys. Wish I was in the states :D

@rxleone: there are a fex companies who often have JDM front cuts or engines listed on TradeMe. If you were after an engine, I'd ask a question on an auction and see how you go.

I'll look into it. Thanks bro.

Ummmmm, no.... the only thing we got that you didn't was EA81 hatches. America pretty much receives the piss of the mix on everything else automotive.

living in the states is not the best.

i baught a JDM engine to replace my 2.5 RS engine, (i broke 2 rods by suckin up water into my cold air intake.) the listing said for a 2.0 turbo engine, when it arived it was in fact a twin turbo. just saying be careful before ordering one of these. better off buying an american motor, once a JDM engine fails, parts are hard to locate.
