February 7, 201016 yr Need to replace the back light bulb for the HVAC pod and my Cruise control switch. Anyone do this recently? Search. Excellent link/procedure here somewhere on the HVAC bulbs (3 of them). I've never needed to look for the other procedure.
February 7, 201016 yr Author I guess what I needed to know is where can I get those three little lights? Never mind, I found the LED thread and will use those. Not paying $5 each to replace these POS. Edited February 7, 201016 yr by mr.radon
February 7, 201016 yr I haven't tried the LED's. But I find the 3 HVAC bulbs for under 20 bucks at the dealer is easier than using the cheaper radio shack ones and trying to peel the rubbers off the old bulbs. But i'm not exactly an electronics wiz.
February 8, 201016 yr Could you post a link to the LED thread. Next time I have to do this I'd much rather use an LED than another bulb.
February 8, 201016 yr Can't seem to find the led thread? But I ordered the NEO-3 LEDs from superbrightleds.com in green for the rest of the switches. I also ordered the one Long (72351AC051) bulb and two short (72351AC061) bulbs from an online Subaru dealer (with some other stuff I needed) for the HVAC controls. Some of the many, many threads on various Subaru forums that deal with these lights (Gen II 95-99) seem to say that the LEDs in the HVAC seem to be prone to spotting or pooling of the lights. Waiting for warmer weather (and kids hockey season to be over) so I will have time and a non-freezing garage to work in to do this job.
February 8, 201016 yr I'm about to replace mine tonight with radioshack bulbs thanks to the wonderful thread i found on this site. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2498&pp=10&highlight=climate+control+backlight&page=2
February 8, 201016 yr That is s good thread. Thanks for the link. I think the radioshack bulbs should be just fine. personaly, I have bought the dealer bulbs and replaced them with those. So far, no failures. As far as the switch bulbs, I just get those from my local junk yard and they don't even charge me for them.
