timing belt marking ?

Featured Replies

i just put a new belt on but it seems the painted markings on the belt aren't quite right. left side is close but right seems off by a tooth. if i put marks on with cam marking i can't get belt on. the count of teeth seems correct for each side.anyone had this problem its a pci timing set i believe they're the same as dealer any help would be great thanks

As long as you have all the correct sprocket marks at the correct positions and you're sure the tooth count is correct, then the belt will be properly installed and you can safely ignore the belt markings.

what motor are you doing? i just did a 2.5 dohc, and the cams on the right almost looked about half a tooth off, but its ok. the mark will probably be on a tooth on the belt and the dot on the cam in the groove on the belt

its a 2.2 and ive done few just never had the markings be off i'll probably triple check before i button it up

the twin cams are always half a tooth off...it still annoys me when i do mine though.

When you release the tensioner it will pull the right side cam into alighnment.

Ultimately they are never perfect - just as close as you can get to the marks. If it's off by a tooth it will be WAY off - look at the distance the pulley has to travel to be off a whole tooth. Ususally they are within half a tooth or less of lining up with the rear cover - that will be correct.
