michaelgstevens
Hi all I have a 99 Legacy Wagon which has an unusual problem. Many times when I begin driving it, the speed sensor will not immediately respond for various lengths of time. When this occurs, the engine and tranny feel like they have incredibly less power, and the car can't 'turn on a dime'. Once the speed sensor starts fuctioning, the tranny seems to get full mobility back. My mechanic is quite convinced it's a tranny issue because he can tell that the bolt for the tranny oil pan had been toyed with. Does anyone know if there's an electronic sensor of some kind in the tranny that may be stuck for some reason? He's pretty convinced it's an electrical problem of some sort... OB99W
How have you determined that the problem is related to "the speed sensor"? If by trouble code, which code was retrieved? The '99 does have known VSS-related problems, sometimes manifesting as speedometer issues. However, "delayed engagement"/slipping is also common. nipper
This sounds more like torque bind to me. "the car cant turn on a dime", thats Torque bind. What makes you think it is a VSS sensor. If a VSS fails you get a CEL, loose AWD, but still have a working spedo. Do you have a flashing ATF temp light on startup? nipper
OB99W
If considering torque bind, see this thread, in particular my post #8: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=108790
