I was wondering if anyone has tried to use the Krylon Fusion spray paint for plastic to paint the plastic door panels inside the car. I am thinking about trying this but not sure if it will just flake off later. Mine are sun baked and look really faded so I wanted a cheap "fix" to spice up my little beast.

I would try mothers back to black. I just used it on my headlight switch that was ash colored and it made it black. Very impressed. It's not a "black" paint like stuff or anything, it just helps return the plastic back to its natural color. The product itself is white, so don't let the name fool you It's good stuff. Cost about $5.

Jess and I swapped the dashboard of her brat... but could only find a tan (uncracked) dash. *the interior is blue*

 

so.... we painted it blue! With Krylon fusion.

you can get a vinyl dye spray paint that is specifically for vinyl interior parts. i would think the krylon might flake off.

 

the krylon should be ok for center consol parts and other hard plastic.

 

i have seen a while interior painted with black vinyl dye over blue. it looked uniform, but some of the plastic bits looked a little glossy.

 

i would say dye on the vinyl and krylon on the hard plastic. make sure to clean the parts very will with soap and water, remove them from the car if you can.

Thanks for the input everyone! I'm going to try the paint project this weekend if the weather co-operates. I'll try to post some pics if it works out.

years ago I used a plastic paint on an entire hideous interior*, I had very good results and it was reasonably durable, I kept some of the left over for touch ups when a scratch or two showed up

 

I used Castrol Super Clean, which is very alkali, and thoroughly scrubbed everything with a mild scotch brite (red I think) and rinsed it until any and all residue of the cleaner was gone and hung the parts to air dry in the sun and get warm

 

the paint I used, maybe a Krylon plastic paint, had MEK in it, (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) and it really fused to the pieces and flashed off quickly, (check the label)

 

you might also consider using a plastic primer, as it attaches to the material so well, and almost any paint can bond to it - which would let you use any color you wanted

 

 

 

(*yeah, "Monkey Poop Brown" was not a good idea, even when it was new)
